ECW Real-Time Coverage for 4/07/2009

Welcome to the EC-Dub!

Before we get started, I’d like to give my two cents about Wrestlemania 25.  Overall, I thought it a very good show but definitely not among the best WM’s.  First off, Money in the Bank was awesome as usual, but it seemed way too short.  Plus, it’s an awful match to start the show with.  Santina was hilarious,  but seriously… this instead of the tag team unification match? Jeff and Matt really delivered in their match and I can’t wait to see more.  The triple threat was barely passable.  Taker/Michaels was truly great and was by far the best match of the night.  And finally, and I know I’m in the minority, but I really liked the Orton/Triple H main event.  I felt they held an old school slugfest and gave it their all.  I loved when Orton took out Trips’ sledgehammer only to get punted in the head.   I love the trademark swap.  Anyway, I feel it’s definitely a MOTY candidate.  It loses to Taker/Michaels, but this early in the year it’s a MOTY candidate to me.  That’s my opinion anyways….

Here we go!

Your hosts are Josh Matthews and Matt Striker from the University of Texas.  Where’s Todd Grisham?

Teddy Long is in the ring and Hollas for WM 25.  He reminds us Vicky Guerrero is no longer the Smackdown GM, but she is now Raw GM.  Teddy Long has been named GM of Smackdown!  The new interim GM of ECW is Tiffany!  She comes out to join Teddy in the ring.  She starts to accept her new position and is interrupted by Jack Swagger’s music.  He heads down as well.  He looks sharp in a suit.  He’s learning from Jericho.  He congratulates Tiffany and says she has one thing to learn.  There is one set of rules for the rest of the ECW roster and a different set of rules for Swagger.  Tiffany is only interested in giving the WWE Universe what they want.  She has a couple of announcements.  Monday night is the draft and Swagger might be leaving ECW.  Secondly, Swagger needs to be concerned with his Backlash opponent.  It will be an “elimination chase” between Finlay, Mark Henry, Christian, and Tommy Dreamer.   That will start with a fatal fourway tonight.

Commercial break.

We’re back and Miz, Morrison Tyson Kidd and Natalya are in the ring.  Evan Bourne’s music hits and here he comes.  This is going to be a great match.  The Colon brothers’ music follows and here they come as well.

Miz, Morrison, and Tyson Kidd (w/ Natalya) vs. Carlito and Primo Colon and Evan Bourne

Miz and Carlito start out.  Miz muscles him to the corner and gets a cheap shot in and it is returned from Carlito.  Miz with some shots and irish whip.  Springboard back elbow from Carlito.  Tag to Primo, drop toe hold and Primo hits a leg drop.  Backs Miz to the corner and sends him to the opposite one.  Miz tries to backbody drop Primo outside but he gets himself back in rolls him with a head scissors.  Tag to Carlito who hits a dropkick.  Miz goes to his corner and tags Kidd.  Kidd takes control and brings Carlito to the wrong corner.  Morrison tags in and kicks and stomps him.  Ref distracted and Miz gets a choke.  Carlito chants.  “Bedazzled knee” from Morrison and a two count.  Chinlock from Morrison.  Carlito tries to break out but back to the wrong corner.  Miz in and they hit the double stomach breaker.  Kidd tags in and elbows and kicks Carlito down.  Tag to Morrison.  Another chinlock.  Carlito fighting back but gets a knee.  Morrison goes for a back suplex but Carlito rolls over and tags in Bourne.  Bourne takes control.  Bourne flips Morrison outside with an impressive flip.  We go to commercial as the heels try to regroup and Bourne heads back in the ring.

We’re back and Morrison has Bourne in a chinlock.  Bourne fights out but is dragged to the heels’ corner.  He tags Miz in and he hits his corner elbow.  Kidd comes in and covers for two.  He gets Bourne in a submission hold. Then a snapmare and a stiff kick.  Back to the corner and Miz back in.  Knees to the back. More of Miz in control.  Ref backs him off after repeated punches to the head.  Modified camel clutch.  Looks painful.  Bourne fighting back and rolls Miz into a two count.  Clothesline from Miz and then tags Kidd in.  Kidd gets a knee and a cover for two.  Miz back in and a legdrop.  Cover for two.  Miz stands on the back of his head to some big boos.  Catapult to Morrison but he spears Morrison!  He then sends Miz to the outside.  Kidd stands there like a moron.  Bourne goes all the way across the ring to tag in Primo.  Kidd in as well. Primo with some high flying offense and a big clothesline.  Cover broken up by the Miz.  Carlito sends Miz out.  Morrison sends Carlito out.  Primo body drops Morrison out.  Primo hits the backcracker on Kidd who had just missed a springboard elbow.  Tags in Bourne who hits the Shooting Star Press.

Winners:  Carlito, Primo and Evan Bourne

Really good match to start things off.

We get a recap of Raw and Orton’s continued feud with the McMahon family.  We also had the return of Batista and the announcement of the Backlash six man tag: Triple H, Batista and Shane-o-Mac vs. Legacy.

Commercial break.

Welcome back to the University of Texas.  Recap of the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony.  What a great class.

Striker makes fun of Matthews’ tie.  Apparently Wrestlemania 25 was on the front page of the Houston Chronicle.  That’s pretty cool, actually.  Now we get a WM 25 recap.

Fatal Fourway is next.  Commercials.

Elimination chase to Backlash is here.  Mark Henry heads to the ring with Tony Atlas.  Finlay and Hornswoggle are next.  Tommy Dreamer and Christian next.

Mark Henry (w/ Tony Atlas) vs. Finlay (w/ Hornswoggle) vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian

Christian has a nice shiner from the MITB on Sunday.  Dreamer and Christian lock up and so do Henry and Finlay.  Henry starts clearing the ring but Christian gives him some chops.  Henry slams him down.  All three men start to team up on Henry.  Finlay gets a big boot, Dreamer gets caught off the top rope and Christian gets flattened by the big man.

Commercial break.

Back to the action and Henry is stomping on Dreamer.  Finlay and Christian try to double team him.  All three suplex Mark Henry.  Dreamer and Christian baseball slide him to the outside.  They throw Henry to the ring steps.  Dreamer takes out the other two.  He slides Finlay in the ring.  Finlay gets him in the corner and then hits his roll slam. Cover for two.  Dreamer with an elbow and he puts Finlay on the top rope.  Goes for the superplex but is headbutted off.  Christian in and also tries for it.  Dreamer hits his back and gets him on his shoulders.  Finlay tries for a clothesline but Christian rolls up Dreamer with a cool move for two.  Dreamer to the outside and it’s Finlay and Christain.  Finlay cover for two.  Chops and uppercut from Christian.  To the corner and Finlay looks for the Celtic Cross but Christian rolls him up for two.  Finlay sends him to the ropes and Christian falls through thanks to Hornswoggle.  Dreamer gets him from behind.  He ties Finlay up in the corner and hits the dropkick.  Henry then takes him out.  Christian hits a missile dropkick and covers for two. Henry throws him off onto Dreamer for a two count.  Christian ends up getting splashed in the corner by Henry.  Hornswoggle  unties Finlay and gives him the shillelagh  He hits Henry from behind as the ref is distracted by Tony Atlas.  Cover. 1,2,3.  Mark Henry is eliminated from the Elimination Chase!  Next week we’ll see a triple threat involving the remaining three.

Winners:  Finlay, Christian, and Tommy Dreamer

It would have been nice if they told us the rules to this Elimination Chase and this Fatal Four Way.  Anyway, it was a great match.  Two really good ones tonight and it seems we’re back on track after an awful week last week.  We’ll see you all next week.!
