Heroes – Episode 3-22 Review

Top Story

“Matt’s changed. He’s committed himself to a very destructive course.” – Mohinder Suresh

Pot. Kettle. Black.

And hey, you gotta love Mohinder for taking the liberty of placing a tack at the location of each identified person who has exhibited abilities. Stupidest. Scientist. Ever.

This episode was all about the mind games, which yielded some varying results. In one instance, Parkman preyed upon the Hunter in a mental game of cat and mouse. In that case, the predator came to the edge. Meanwhile, Sylar played some pretty cerebral games with HRG, and in that case the victim was the one who came to a breaking point (speaking of Sylar, YAY! They finally explained how he survived his “death” in last volume’s finale! Bravo!)

Overall I enjoyed the complexities and tense level of distrust, and they’ve done a nice job of solidifying the Hunter as THE villain of this volume (which will allow them to shift HRG and Nathan back into the “good guy” roles). The chess match between HRG and the Hunter has been fun, with HRG using his skepticism and keen skills to determine that Sylar is still alive and working with the Hunter. Meanwhile, the Hunter has enough sense to use HRG’s perceived paranoia against him.

The seething hatred between HRG and Sylar does make me wonder what alternate course of action COULD have taken place that would have resulted in Sylar living the life of a reformed father, raising a son named Noah. All we really know is that that reality didn’t include him renting a car with Elle.

In other news… Hiro and Ando, once again, are back to basically stalling until the finale. I don’t recall two television characters ever traveling so often. Honestly, it seems like every single volume they’re trekking from one destination to another, constantly using words like “quest” and “destiny.” It’s almost as if the writers only have a finale planned for these two, and all of their other appearances are just stalling until that point.

And there’s one thing I don’t get: If Baby Matt Parkman can activate Hiro’s abilities, only not to its full potential, shouldn’t Ando’s acceleration ability be able to solve that little issue?

By the way, I’m pretty sure that Angela brought four shovels with her. But I couldn’t help but notice that she, uh, wasn’t shoveling with the rest of them (after barking out orders, no less). Women.
