10 Thoughts On SmackDown – 10.04.09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

Following a one week hiatus we’re back with the post WrestleMania 10 thoughts.

1. Matt Hardy’s show opening promo just goes to prove that he is the better Hardy when it comes to the microphone. He’s always struggled from the belief that Jeff is the better in ring performer, but Matt has always been a lot more consistent in the ring. I’d like to predict that Matt is going to have the better year out of the two.

2. I hope I’m not the only one happy to see Theodore Long back as SmackDown’s general manager. Long’s always been the funnest GM, and its good to see him back on the blue brand.

3. What with Kofi Kingston and Santino Marella appearing on SmackDown this week, I’ve got to wonder what the point of the brand split is. When everyone seems to appear on every brand it sort of dulls any importance of having three separate brands. Let’s hope that after this Monday’s draft, people stay on their shows.

4. While there was no need for Kingston to appear on SmackDown, it gives me a chance to sing his praises. I wasn’t a big fan of Kingston prior to WrestleMania, but following his superb performance during the Money in the Bank match, and again during his match with the Big Show, I’ve got to say Kingston has become a favourite of mine.

5. Santino Marella is pure comedy gold, and his match with The Great Khali was nothing more than that – a comedy match. Keep Santino in comedy storylines, and I’ll keep watching him.

6. The Undertaker’s 17-0 video package really gave me a nice nostalgia kick, although looking at it his past three Manias have seen him get bigger wins than any of the rest.

7. Well I could not care less about the Diva’s division, but it has been getting better in the past few weeks. Gail Kim, Maryse and Michelle McCool can all put on good matches.

8. The John Cena vs. Edge feud could very well be looked back on as the Stone Cold vs. The Rock feud for the current wrestling fans generation. That is not going to happen if they are booked to face each other every month for the next year. This is exactly what is going to happen if John Cena is drafted to SmackDown. WWE need to realise that these two put on classic matches whenever they step in the ring, but that those matches need to continue being spaced out. After their Backlash match I’d like to see both men go their separate ways for the remainder of 2009 and see some new talent step up to feud with both men.

9. I can’t put into words just how much I hate Carlito & Primo being the Unified Tag Team Champions. Well, I could, but I don’t think I’d ever be posting here again after doing so, which is why I can’t be happier that Legacy got the win in their tag team match.

10. While having a stretcher match between these two does dampen the impact of their ‘brutal’ Street Fight at WrestleMania the match itself was very entertaining. Whats most interesting from this match is that it almost guarantees that one of these men will be drafted away from SmackDown during this Mondays draft. What would be the point in having a feud ending match like this if they were both going to be on the same show the very next week.
