Coleman/Bonnar Slated For UFC 100 Undercard

News

A light heavyweight fight between Mark Coleman and Stephan Bonnar has been officially announced for UFC 100, and here’s the surprise: it’s going to be a prelim fight.

I have to think that on any other show, in any other month, a fight featuring Mark Coleman and Stephan Bonnar would be a main card pay per view fight. The only reason Coleman even has another fight in the UFC at this point is because of the way he got over with the live crowd in his fight against Shogun Rua. That fight was supposed to be his last, but Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta saw the way he became an instant superstar with his gutsy performance and decided that they couldn’t very well cut him immediately.

This is a fight that could easily be moved to the August show. We’re going to see two title fights at UFC 100, which means that unless more than one of the early main card openers goes no more than two minutes, there’s very little chance that we’ll see Coleman/Bonnar on the main card.

That seems to be counter productive, especially since Coleman is only fighting because of the way the live crowd and pay per view audience responded to his last fight.
