Is it fair to label somebody a visionary director when he hasn’t even had a full-length feature to his credit? That’s what Shane Acker has been touted in the trailer for 9, and up until now he only has a few animated shorts to his credit, like The Hangnail and The Astounding Talents of Mr. Grenade. His latest is a post-apocalyptic ragdoll movie (think Little Big Planet meets Fallout 3). A trailer first debuted back in December, but not much else has been seen publicly. Until now.
MTV has a two-minute clip from the feature, and it’s caught my eye. We know that Pixar is the big dog in the animation department, but this is an intriguing little film. Check out the clip below.
Joining Shane Acker in the creative department is Pamela Pettler, his co-writer, of Corpse Bride and Monster House previously. Prior to being a full-length feature 9 was an animated short from 2005, earning an Oscar nomination as a result. Lending their vocal talents to this feature are Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Christopher Plummer, and Martin Landau. 9 arrives in theaters on September 9th.
