UFC 97 Post-Fight Press Conference Video

News

A few clips from the press conference are available here.

One of the main points to take away from the post-show press conference is that Dana White was extremely unhappy with the main event. Take this quote, for instance:

I can honestly tell you that I’ve never put on an event that I was embarrassed to be at until tonight. I want to publicly apologize to all the fans. I personally apologize for what happened tonight. You guys know, this isn’t what the UFC was built on and this isn’t the way the fights usually go. Watching that was hard. That was tough to take. It was embarrassing, honestly. It was really and truly embarrassing.

I’m not sure what kind of actions the company can take against Silva and Leites. Well, Leites can be fired since he lost last night, but nothing can be done to Silva. If, as Joe Rogan noted last night, he truly cares about the fans, there will be no repeat performances of the Cote fight and last night. In fact, I see no other options for Silva except to either fight Georges St. Pierre, move up to the light heavyweight division permanently, or both.

He simply cannot continue to stay in the middleweight division and have these fights against people he so obviously considers to be beneath him. He may have already lost the fans last night with his performance and his post-fight interview; any more damage like that, and he’s going to be a champion that nobody wants to watch. That’s a death sentence in the UFC – just ask Tim Sylvia.
