Welcome to the EC-Dub!

Backlash was a crazy night that had all three major titles changing hands.  That, of course, includes the ECW strap.  Christian won a great match against Jack Swagger and I hope the feud continues for a long time.  On to the show!

We start out with a recap of the Backlash matchup.  It really was a good one.  The finish was smart and they really worked well together.  Christian gets announced as the NEW ECW Champion and Captain Charisma heads to the ring.

Josh Matthews and Matt Striker welcome us to Madison Square Garden!

Christian parades with the Silver Belt.  It looks huge on him.  Christian says he did what he said he would do when he won the ECW belt.  He says Swagger will interrupt him but before he does he’d like to say this is the best day of his career.  He is in front of his Peeps at MSG and is standing tall as a champion.  He calls out Swagger but instead Tommy Dreamer’s music hits and he comes out wearing a suit. (Much like he did when he announced he will retire if he’s not ECW champion before his contract runs out.)

Dreamer grabs a mic and says congrats.  ECW Chant.  Dreamer says that for the first time in 3 months we have a champ that shows what ECW is all about.  He says Dreamer and Christian are friends and have been for a long time.  But Dreamer says his time is running out to win the ECW belt.  He has less than six weeks before his contract expires.  He is in the building that made him love this business to challenge Christian for the belt.  Christian says they should do it tonight, right at MSG.  Swagger’s music hits and he comes out in a suit as well (sans tie).

Swagger says he was willing for this farce to go on but no longer.  He says Christian cheated and that’s why he won.  And Dreamer is a joke that doesn’t deserve a shot.  The only thing saving the both of them from a Swagger beat down is that Swagger will face Christian at Judgment Day for a rematch.  And no one will face Christian for the belt until Swagger does.  And here comes GM Tiffany.  Looking good.  First she welcomes everyone to ECW.  She says Swagger DOES have a title shot at the next pay-per-view, but he’s wrong about him being the only one to face Christian before then.  Only Tiffany has the power to make that decision.  And she decides that Christian and Dreamer will fight TONIGHT for the ECW Belt!

Tyson Kidd and Natalya are backstage getting ready for a match against Finlay next!

Commercials.

Tyson Kidd’s music hits and he comes to the ring with Natalya.  She works on his hair (all three strands of it).  We also recap the tag match on Superstars last week which Finlay and Hornswoggle won against Kidd and Natalya.  Finlay heads down next.

Finlay vs. Tyson Kidd (w/ Natalya)

They lock up and Finlay muscles him to the corner and they break clean.  Finlay chant.  Armlock from Finlay and a take down, quick cover for two.  Side headlock from Finlay who is sent to the ropes and comes off with a shoulderblock.  Kidd retreats to the outside.  Kidd back in for a test of strength but Finlay kicks him in the midsection.  Sends him to the corner and then gets a kick to the head.  Kidd goes for a dropkick from the second rope but Finlay catches him and puts him in a half-crab.  Kidd goes for the ropes but Finlay pulls him back.  Kidd tries to get to his feet and goes for the Inziguri but Finlay ducks under.  Kidd starts to run away and Finlay clotheslines him to the outside.

Commercial break.

We’re back and Finlay covers Kidd for two.  Kidd gets a dropkick to the left knee.  Kidd goes to work on the knee with some kicks and elbows.  He twists the knee and ankle and goes for the submission.  Finlay’s shoulders are down and gets a two count.  Finlay twists himself out of the hold but Kidd goes right back after the knee.  Finlay kicks himself out of the hold and elbows Kidd as he heads to the corner.  Punches and now a side headlock.  Kidd lifts him up and gives a kneebreaker.  Finlay rolls up Kidd and gets a two count.  Clothesline from Finlay.  Shoulderbreaker but hurts his own knee as well.  To the ropes and Kidd kicks him as he goes for the back body drop.  Kidd goes to the ropes but gets caught in a scoop slam.  Cover for two.  Finlay goes for the Celtic Cross but his knee goes out.  Kidd kicks him to the outside.  He goes for the baseball slide but Finlay pulls back the apron and Kidd falls between it and the ring.  Finlay pummels him for a while (awesome segment).  He throws Kidd back in the ring.  As Finlay heads back in, he and the ref are distracted by Natalya.  Kidd picks up Finlay’s shillelagh and hits him in the damaged knee with it.  He covers and gets the three!

Winner: Finlay

More great wrestling from ECW.  Kidd continues to impress and Finlay seems motivated without Hornswoggle around.

SciFi reminds us that next week, ECW starts one hour later.  Don’t forget kids.

Commercial break.

We’re back and Vladimir Kozlov is wearing a beret and what is supposed to be a Russian uniform.  He needs to shave and wear an undershirt if he’s going to sell that look.  He speaks GibRussian.  Oh wait that’s English.  He says no one in ECW or WWE or the world that can compete with him.  It’s only a matter of time before he achieves global domination.  That end bit was GibRussian.

Matt Striker welcomes Gregory Helms to ECW as an announcer.  He interviews Evan Bourne.  Bourne says the draft brought some new faces and Backlash brought a new champion.  He says he has championship aspirations just like Dreamer.  Paul Burchill interrupts him and says he and Bourne have a rematch on WWE Superstars this week.  The Scarlet Witch was there as well.  Helms ends the segment with a “What’s up wit dat?”

Tommy Dreamer heads to the ring and we’ll have a championship match… NEXT!

We’re back.  Christian to the corner but Dreamer misses the spear and hits the pole shoulder first.  Christian immediately capitalizes on the injury.  He torques the shoulder.  Dreamer fights out and goes to the ropes.  Ducks a clothesline and tries for a DDT.  Christian counters with a modified DDT of his own.  Cover for two.  Christian drags Dreamer across the ring and drapes his arm and shoulder over the top rope.  Dreamer down and Christian goes to the top.  Missile dropkick! Cover for two.  Christian goes back to work on the shoulder and elbow.  Forearms to Dreamer’s head.  He goes to the top again but gets caught.  Dreamer goes for the superplex and HITS!  Both men down and the ref starts the 10 count.  Dreamer up and covers for a long two.  Christian fights back with some punches and elbows.  Christian holds the back and pulls Dreamer up.  Irish whip to the ropes and Dreamer kicks him as he goes for the back body drop.  Dreamer clotheslines Christian and the both end up going over the top rope.  Ref counts.  Dreamer back in at 8 and Christian JUST beats the count.  Christian up to the top but gets punched by Dreamer on the way down.  Clothelsine.  Neckbreaker.  Cover for two.  Christian goes off the top for a sunset flip.  Dreamer counters and covers for two.  Small package from Christian for two.  Reversal for two.  Dreamer nails Christian with a clothesline.  He sets him up hanging in the corner.  He’s gonna go for the low dropkick but Jack Swagger tackles him!  He kicks the hanging Christian like crazy.  More offense on Dreamer.  He throws Dreamer into Christian.  He gives Christian the gutwrench powerbomb.  Swagger stands tall as Dreamer and Christian are out cold on the mat.

Winner: Christian via DQ

The main event was going well before the Swagger interference.  Glad the folks at MSG got to see Dreamer put on a quality match before his retirement.

See you all next week!  Remember, we start an hour later!
