UFC signs Anderson Silva-Forrest Griffin fight to UFC 101

News

Kevin Iole over at Yahoo Sports is confirming that the UFC has signed the Silva-Forrest fight for UFC 101. It will serve as the co-main event to the lightweight title fight between B.J. Penn and Kenny Florian. If you are an MMA fan, pack your backs for Philadelphia.

The ramifications of this are huge and briefly talked about in my previoius post.

A win by either fighter puts them in the mix for a light heavyweigh title shot. Both men would probably be one fight removed.

If Anderson Silva wants a 205 pound title shot he may want to start rooting agaisnt his friend and training parnter Lyoto Machida. Silva has said in the past he would never fight Lyoto so Machida getting his hands on the belt would stop any title run talk real soon.

If Rashad Evans holds on to his belt then he will go on to fight Rampage Jackson. Silva would face the winner of that fight, given that he wins his fight with Forrest and the fight after that.

And if Machida wins, canceling out a Silva title run,  a superfight with George St. Pierre becomes likely and he can always go back to middleweight and toy with the Henderson-Bisping winner followed by the  Maia vs. Marquardt winner.

As far as the Silva-Griffin matchup, one has to wonder how Forrest might win.  It would seem Forrest will have to come up with the perfect gameplan much the way Randy Couture had to come up with the perfect gameplan for Brock Lesnar.

No doubt Randy will be working very closely with Forrest for this fight over at Xtreme Couture. The only way I can see Forrest winning is by decision and it will be very hard to outpoint someone as technical as Anderson.

More to come as it comes.
