Survivor: Tocantins - The Brazilian Highlands

Brendan Synnott was the eigth person voted out of Survivor: Tocantins. I had a chance to talk with him about the exile alliance, the fate of his hidden immunity idol, and what Tyson thought about winning immunity for nothing last week. Here is what he had to say….

Billy Debney: Hey Brendan hows it going?

Brendan Synnott: Not bad Billy how are you?

BD: Oh not too bad thanks.  So how does it feel to be slain by the dragon slayer?

BS: I am so proud to be part of one of the better nick names in Survivor history…and to be part of Coach’s big plan……Even though it was Tysons plan!

BD: How did it feel to take that river rafting trip away from him?

BS: Oh that was so beautiful. Especially since I had talked about his kayak trip so much….which I really dont believe. So that was really gratifying to take that away from him.

BD: Even though you felt safe at tribal…why did you feel you had to answer Jeff’s question about the idol?

BS: I think at that point in the game, the main reason I had a target on my back was because of how many times I’d been to exile. And because of that I thought that was a perfect opportunity to just come out and say I had it. I was just pretty confident in the exile alliance…and if we had gotten one more person out we could have taken control.

BD: Do you regret not approaching Taj at the merge to solidify that alliance?

BS: I totally regret that. But the thing is I told her and Stephen that I may not be all buddy buddy at the merge. We still needed it to be secret. But I probably should have whispered in her ear “its all good!”. I just didn’t do that. And like any relationship you need communication to make it work.

BD: So why do you think it didn’t work?

BS: You know I think it was less Taj then it was Stephen because of his loyalty to JT. He is a pretty weasely character. He has gone back and forth a lot. Now I talked to Stephen alot after the merge and told him to talk to Taj so I didnt have to. But I dont think he did.

BD: You got a chance to bond with JT on the rafting trip…do you feel a little betrayed by him?

BS: No I don’t take any of it to personally. We all entered into a game that really has no rules. And you have to lie and cheat to win…no matter what anyone says. I dont hold it against him. I just hope the person who has the best strategy and plays the best game wins the whole thing.

BD: What do you think Sierra has to do to save her skin?

BS: You know to me, the way I see Sierra is the way I see Jalapao overall…in terms of coming into the merge. Jalapao really morphed into what ever Timbera was looking for. And thats what Sierra needs to do. Theres a great opportunity for people who are at the bottom to cling to other people. You just dont want to be at the top.

BD: Why didnt you leave her the idol?

BS: I was so cought off guard by the whole thing. I should have just taken it out of my pocket and thrown it to her before my fire got extinguished. But yea I was just so blindsided that I didnt think of it.

BD: If you could right now single handedly pick the winner…who would it be?

BS: You know thats really tough. Theres half the game still left. But in terms of strategy…I think Tyson is a good player. Taj is a good player…JT is a good player. Those are kind of the horses I’d bet on.

BD: What was Exile really like?

BS: They give no love at all to exile. My friends were saying it looks like a vacation spot where you can just chill and talk about strategy. Are you nuts?!?! That place sucked! You have no shelter, not much food, its hard to make fire, you couldnt get water easily. The thing is for me that I was on exile for 9 out of the first 12 days. So the bulk of my time I spent with the other tribe and on exile. So i became pretty familiar with the place.

BD: If you could pick from both tribes to make a dream team alliance…who would be on it?

BS: JT would have been awesome. And from my own tribe…Sierra was totally loyal to me. She had my back from the start. the only problem with her was that she would run her mouth and it would get us in trouble. I thought Taj was awesome too!

BD: What’s one thing you shouldn’t do while on Survivor?

BS: Trust anyone!!!

BD: One more question….was Tyson at all choked last week when he won immunity for nothing?

BS: (laughs) Yea he was pissed. He was like, “can I get a burger for this or something??” But I think the fact that Joe went home and we didnt have to go to tribal…he took with the right attitude and didnt cause to much of a stink. I just think he liked giving Jeff some crap overall. More fuel for the fire.

BD: Alright thats all I’ve got for you. Thanks Brendan.

BS: No problem…thanks Billy.
