Jim Cornette On Favorite Managers, Kozlov, Midnight Express, Who He’d Manage Today

News

John Pollock has a recap of Jim Cornette’s apperance on the Law radio show at PWI. Here are some highlights:

Bobby Heenan’s was the biggest influence on his career as a manager. He also complimented Jimmy Hart.

On the subject of talent like Vladimir Kozlov “screaming for a manager”, Cornette gets a trade mark wicked burn in- Cornette replies that the fans are screaming for their money back and doesn’t know if a manager, a lion tamer or what could help someone like Kozlov. He covered similar territory to his online commentary about wrestling writers vs. bookers, saying that it isn’t about writers creating a character so much as a booker seeing talent in a performer where they have a great character within them, citing the Undertaker as an example.

He thinks Vince is ashamed of calling his product pro wrestling and uses another line from his online commentary; “No one ever says ‘hey, did you go to the sports entertainment matches last night?'” He makes sure to mention that TNA still identifies itself as pro wrestling, saying they’re the only company to still do that.

He talks about the time frame of his new Midnight Express book; it begins before Hogan won his first WWF Title and includes Turner buying out JCP. He blames/credits Jim Herd for killing the business instead of Vince McMahon.

He called Sable the female Ultimate Warrior, saying they were the two most untalented people Vince ever made money off of.

As far as modern managers go, he gave Larry Sweeney and Jim Mitchell props. He also said that if he could manage one current talent, it would be Matt Morgan. Given their association when Morgan first came to TNA, it’s kind of surprising he didn’t ever get that chance.

Beyond that, he talks about the Midnights glory days with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express and Tully and Arn and talks about working as a face against Paul Heyman’s Midnights.
