Gossip Girl – Episode 2-23 Review

Top Story

The bitch is back. That’s right folks, the recent bible-hugging Georgina Sparks has returned.

Serena, Blair, Chuck and Nate are trying to get all the money back from Gabriel, but it turns out Poppie was the real mastermind behind it all. So they come up with a plan–one that doesn’t involve telling the cops or Lily. When Dan gets wind of the news that his father lost his college money, he can’t leave it in the hands of this foursome. He tells Lily himself.

Lily is pissed at Serena for not telling her, but instead of going after Poppie, she decides to just pay back the investors with her own money. She also decides to make Rufus believe the investment went through and pay him dividends.  She tells Serena to back off Poppie to avoid getting her name caught up in scandal.

Serena won’t have Poppie get away so Blair convinces Georgina to act as a pawn. She dresses up to meet Poppie and pretend to be interested in the investments. I knew at this point things were going to get bad.

Meanwhile, Chuck and Blair are still in their never-ending limbo and Nate is sick of it. He tells Chuck to either tell Blair how he feels or let her go. I give Nate props for this and I really liked this scene. These two are (or were) best friends, and both are looking out for Blair more than themselves.

Blair tearfully tells Chuck to answer her question so she can go from there. Did he really have feelings for her or was it all just a game? I teared up as I watched him struggle with the answer. It’s so clear that he didn’t want to let her go, but he tells her it was all a game and she walks away. When Serena asks him why he did that, Chuck says because he loves her and can’t make her happy. I can’t get enough of this!

Chuck rarely breaks down that wall he has so when you get to see him be really honest with himself and when you see him look at Blair, it really breaks your heart. I am upset that Blair and Nate are still together, but the buildup of the Chuck/Blair love is so good that I know it will pay off big when it comes to light (which we all know will happen eventually).

Rufus finds out about Lily’s plan and is not happy at all. He doesn’t like being Lily’s charity case and decides not to propose. Lily calls the cops on Serena, as she felt there was no other way for her to learn. Meanwhile, the plan with Poppie goes awry and she walks away with Georgina’s cash.

Blair is convinced Georgina planned the whole thing, even though it didn’t seem like it. Well, I guess that church money Poppie stole really got to her, because she gives Blair a call to tell her that she’s back (the evil in her, that is).

Next week is the crossover episode where we get to see the new spin-off of Lily as a teenager. While I’m not thrilled to wait another week of Chuck and Blair plot development, I’m interested to see how the new show will play out.
