More Reasons Why Being Deaf Sucks/Rocks – Randomness

Columns, Insider, Top Story

I can’t really focus this week, so I’m just going to give a smattering of thoughts on a variety of subjects.

Quixote

I’m really irked that when I ripped the newest Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, It’s Blitz!, to iTunes, it came up as “It’s Blitz! (Instrumentals)”, even though it weren’t instrumentals. I’ve spent the last few weeks searching for the bloody instrumentals to that very album, but to no avail.

I’m a collector. I’m also an instrumental fiend. So teasing me with something that doesn’t exist is just damn cruel and downright sadistic. I’ve gotten so frustrated looking for those instrumentals that I’ve literally had to take a time-out. It’s not fun at all.

But at least it’s gotten me to forget about the equally mythical instrumentals to Bloc Party’s Intimacy.

Help out Paste

I’m a fan of Paste magazine and it’s a good read. And even if you don’t read the magazine (and you should), it’d still be nice if you could do me a favor and help them out. Like most magazines, Paste is going though a tough time, so they put the call out for help.

I’m pretty much broke—so much so that I can’t really afford to buy music. But I still found a way to make a donation. And they’re giving away over 70 songs, so you’re really getting a deal in return for your donation.

So if you’re a fan of Paste, music or even just me, please consider donating something so that yet another magazine doesn’t go the way of King, Blender and Scratch.

Enough Already

I wanted to write this a while ago, but I didn’t feel like I could stretch an entire column out of it. Hollywood, please give “Blister in the Sun” a break. I’m tired of hearing it as the soundtrack for what seems like every other movie trailer.

I reached my breaking point upon seeing the umpteenth ad for Adventureland. And while I get that it’s a period flick, “Blister in the Sun” is one of the most overused songs when it comes to Hollywood. Seriously, give that song a much deserved rest. You too, Wendy’s.

Blackout 2?

Really? Was anyone clamoring for this album? Sure, the first one was a good offering. But a follow-up… ten years later? Can it even qualify as a “follow-up” if that much time has passed?

What was holding that album up? What prevented them from releasing it five years ago? Was the memory of the short-lived foray into television Method and Red something that the heads of Def Jam were trying to bury before they released the album?

Actually that would be a good reason for holding the album back. Never mind.

And that’s going to do it for this week’s edition. Later.
