Heath Herring has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 99 bout with Cain Velasquez. UFC officials say that a replacement will be named on Wednesday.
Since the return of Mirko Cro Cop hasn’t been officially announced by the company, there’s an outside chance that Cro Cop could now step in and face Velasquez. That would represent a stern test for Velasquez, and I’m not certain they’re ready to throw him that high up the food chain just yet.
UPDATE: Cheick Kongo has been tapped to replace Herring against Velasquez. The news, which was initially broken this morning by MMA Bay, has since been confirmed by both Kongo and the UFC.
