Fashion in Film – DVD Review

fashioninfilm

Fashion and film have always played an important role in each other’s lives. This is a documentary that delves into that subject.

Filled with interviews from both industries, from Jean-Paul Gaultier to Brett Ratner and Amanda Bynes, Fashion in Film is a glitzy, polished look at the evolution of the relationship between fashion and film. At just under an hour long, it seems to skid along the surface of the subject, which almost seems fitting as so much of fashion is about what is seen on the facade.

It talks about very obvious films like The Devil Wears Prada, Legally Blonde and Sex and the City as well as classic films like Breakfast at Tiffany’s. And of course it talks about probably the most famous costume designer of all time, Edith Head. Though more thorough and interesting documentaries about her can be found elsewhere.

If you’re interested in learning about the subject this a good place to start, but there is a lot more to learn about fashion on the medium of film. If you’re really into the subject odds are you won’t learn anything new and will be disappointed.

The film is presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 2.0 surround sound. This is actually a very good-looking documentary if nothing else, and it sounds fine too.

Nothing.

This is a pretty worthless DVD. It’s less than an hour long and has no special features. If you really want to see it, wait for it to rerun on Starz.
