10 Thoughts On Smackdown – 05.22.09

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

It’s time for the post Judgment Day edition of SmackDown.

1. I’m still feeling extremely underwhelmed by Jeff Hardy’s skills on the microphone. He’s obviously being pushed as the main babyface for the brand right now, but a main event player cannot just rely on their in ring abilities alone without getting stale, and Jeff Hardy is getting into dangerous territory when it comes to being stale.

2. I enjoyed the six man tag match immensely, but there was one man who just seemed out of place. I’m referring to Ricky Ortiz, who just can’t seem to get over no matter how much air time he gets. Either give the man a serious feud, and give him a chance to prove his worth, or send him back to the job squad.

3. It will be interesting to see Melina clash with Michelle McCool over the Women’s Championship. Both have large personalities and are solid in the ring, so this could be one of the best Women’s feuds of the year.

4. Clearly there is going to be some kind of feud involving Rey Mysterio’s mask coming up, likely involving Chris Jericho. I have to say that I think it would be a mistake to remove Mysterio’s mask, because that is one of his biggest selling points.

5. A solid match between Chris Jericho and CM Punk. It is matches like this that Punk needs right now if he is to be taken seriously when he eventually cashes in the Money in the Bank briefcase. WWE also needs to stop jobbing Punk out to every pay per view opponent he faces.

6. Umaga speaks! Anyone else notice that after not being able to speak English since debuting, Umaga is suddenly fluent and has no accent what so ever?

7. I’ve never noticed before, but Dolph Ziggler’s entrance music is awesome!

8. I’m struggling to see where they can take the Dolph Ziggler/ Great Khali feud. I cant imagine it going too much longer, and I can’t see a singles match between them being too agreat. Maybe they’ll shock me, SmackDown has had a tendency of doing that recently.

9. I have to say that while Extreme Rules has never been a pay per view that I look particularly forward to due to the short time they give to build it up with, this year the SmackDown side of things are already looking solid. Edge/ Jeff Hardy and Jericho/ Mysterio should be solid matches certainly worth watching.

10. While a ladder match between Edge and Jeff Hardy should be excellent, I do have to question the logic of it not being made a TLC match. The history between these two just warrants a TLC match, and I’d much rather see that than a simple ladder match.
