Total Nonstop Weekly – 05.24.09

Columns

This week on Total Nonstop Weekly, I keep you up-to-date on the latest TNA News as TNA presents Sacrifice later tonight.  I will also recap Thursday’s iMPACT and preview tonight’s Sacrifice.  What goes on in Russo’s mind when his latest idea involves a cardboard cut-out and Mick Foley?  Is he too cheap to use a mannequin?  I’ll attempt to bring things to light in this special edition of Total Nonstop Weekly.

TNA Rapid Fire

Terry Funk was in attendance at a live TNA show in Amarillo, Texas as a special enforcer for the Samoa Joe v. Scott Steiner match.  He posed with Mick Foley and got involved with him during the match.

TNA is on Twitter!

Shane Sewell was recently “future endeavored” by TNA, most likely as a cost cutting measure.

With the extra cash, TNA signs a “well-known” female.  Somehow, this announcement will be a huge disappointment.

So, Vince Russo sleeps at Mick Foley’s house?  That would give me nightmares.

TNA Steps in to Make Things Right in Colorado

It was reported on TNA’s website that TNA will have two house shows this upcoming Friday and Saturday in Pueblo, Colorado and Cheyenne, Wyoming.  They are offering a $10 discount for fans that were displaced when WWE left Denver due to the now infamous “Denver Debacle”.  It is unconfirmed at this point whether or not TNA will take the tickets or just give the discount so you can get your money back from WWE.  It is noted that tickets purchased for the WWE shows from Ticketmaster (via phone or internet) will automatically be refunded to the credit card that was used to purchase them with nothing else necessary from the buyer.  All tickets purchased from the Pepsi Center box office would need to be returned to the place of purchase for a refund.  This means that if you bought your tickets from Ticketmaster, you’ll get your refund and have tickets as a nice souvenir to show the folks in TNA and save an extra $10.

$7 Tickets Cheaper than TNA’s Pay-Per-Views

In a surprising twist, TNA has released some seats for TNA Slammiversary in Detroit for $7.  I’ve attempted to check the total cost of the tickets including Ticketmaster fees, but the ticketing system was unavailable at this time, but I can speculate that the total cost per seat of the $7 tickets might be around $20.  This is a good move for TNA, even if the $7 seats are in the 200 loge section.  However, as the event moves closer and if TNA isn’t satisfed with the progress, I wouldn’t be surprised if other seats open up for $7.  Perhaps a nice idea for TNA would be to charge $7 for the Pay-Per-View and promote that heavily on television.  That would be close to a 75% reduction in the normal price for a TNA Pay-Per-View.  With that price, if they were to get four times the normal buyrate for a TNA Pay-Per-View, it would be a success for TNA, as that would attract more people to the product.  Of course I’m dreaming.

TNA iMPACT Ratings

The 05.14.09 edition of TNA iMPACT scored a 1.2 rating.  The rating for the 05.21.09 episode has been delayed due to the Memorial Day holiday weekend.  I will report on that rating Thursday in another edition of Total Nonstop Weekly.

TNA iMPACT ThrowDown

Daniels & Suicide d. Lethal Consequences & The Motor City Machine Guns (Suicide pinfall on Shelley; face to the knee) – This is what TNA needs – a decent opening match to keep me watching.  Could the Daniels/Suicide match at Sacrifice be the favor Suicide owed Daniels for saving his behind?  Whatever the case, it’s going to be good.

Sting d. Eric Young (Pinfall via Scorpion Death Drop) – I think a heel EY is what the doctor ordered.  He goes to management and demands his chance to shine.  Last week, Foley sent him to the dogs and this week, EY told Jarrett off, saying that he’ll regret telling Young to seize the opportunity.

Kurt Angle d. Matt Morgan (Pinfall via small package) – Matt Morgan continues to improve his game by being able to compete with Kurt Angle.  Between this match and the opening tag team three way, I’m torn on which was the better match.  Angle sold Morgan’s offense and the way he got the win proved to be perfect.  This loss won’t hurt Morgan and the handshake between the two shows that there is mutual respect.

Jeff Jarrett d. Samoa Joe (Samoa Joe doesn’t care; Disqualification) – This is continuing the “Samoa Joe is completely insane” angle.  Nothing else to talk about here, except that it’s starting to get tiresome.

Mick Foley d. a piece of cardboard (Pinfall via the elbow drop) – My rant for this match would be longer than the actual match itself.  Why couldn’t they use a mannequin to look like Rocky Balboa?  Better yet, why couldn’t they use someone dressed like Rocky?  That would have been a slightly more entertaining match.  There’s more to say, but I’m trying to forget this ever happened.

TNA Sacrifice Card

Pre-Show: Amazing Red vs. Kiyoshi
Kevin Nash vs. Samoa Joe
Knockouts Monsters Ball: Daffney vs. Taylor Wilde

* If Kurt Angle loses, he sacrifices his leadership in the Main Event Mafia.
