Updates on Shawn Michaels & John Cena

News

Shawn Michaels was originally expected to return in time to build towards a match at SummerSlam. However, he recently got in touch with WWE about taking more time off. He is in a good position financially and wants to spend more time with his kids before they become teenagers and don’t want to hang around with him as much. There may be a chance that he doesn’t return until early 2010, although when he was in a similar situation in 2007 he wound up returning sooner than expected after John Cena got injured. Michaels has also been reconsidering his retirement options, with the chance to return now and again like Hulk Hogan has done rather than making a full-on retirement beginning to hold more appeal.

A member of the creative team brought up the idea of turning John Cena heel during a recent meeting with Vince McMahon. Needless to say, Vince was far from receptive about the idea. Cena still sells a lot of merchandise and appeals to the younger viewers WWE is trying to connect with, so there is little chance of Vince wanting to turn him anytime soon.
