Former EliteXC champion K.J. Noons looks to MMA return

News

In an exclusive interview with Watch Kalib Run, K.J. Noons talks about this future in MMA, possibly fighting for Strikeforce.

“Scott (Coker) and I have been talking the past few days. I used to fight on Scott’s fight cards in San Jose 10 years ago, so I’ve known him a long time.”

The addition of Noons to the Strikeforce welterweight (or lightweight) division would be a nice addition given that Strikeforce is thinner in talent in said divisions then in their heavier divisions. Noons (7-2) holds wins over Nick Diaz and Yves Edwards when competing for Elite XC.

K.J. Noons seemed to let boxing take center stage for awhile but appears to still have interest in MMA competition. When asked about the shift from MMA, to boxing, back to MMA Noons responded, “I never said I was giving up MMA, I just enjoy competing in both sports, I boxed since I was a kid and just love to box. I love MMA also, I’m just going back and forth.”

When asked about a rematch with Nick Diaz under the Strikeforce banner Noons said, “There is some bad blood, drama, and history between us, so I think people would want to see it again. I’m down for it.”

Asked if he would take another opponent for a Diaz fight Noons went on to say, “It doesn’t matter to me, whenever I have a date for a fight, I’m going to train hard and make sure I come ready to fight and give the people a great fight and what they paid to see.

For fans that recall, Noons was able to pick Diaz apart in their EliteXC fight. The fight was stopped after the first round due to cuts sustained to the face of Diaz. A rematch between the two would be one more marketable fight for the Strikeforce banner to put together.
