Pulse Wrestling’s RoH on HDNet Report – 5-30-09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

This promises to be one of the biggest RoH on HDNet episodes yet. The tag team titles are on the line in a tables are legal match between the champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico, and the American Wolves of Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards. If that isn’t enough of a reason to read on, I don’t know what is…

Opening Contest: “Addicted to Love” Rhett Titus vs. Roderick Strong

We start with Rhett Titus doing his best Batman impersonation WHAAAARGARRRBLLL. As silly as his promo was, it was a lot better than Roddy’s. They actually have a pretty even match. Neither guy has an outstanding record on HDNet, but to RoH diehards a close match against a guy like Roddy can go a long way toward legitimacy. Roderick gets the win after a flurry of moves and the sick kick. This was a pretty decent match.

Winner: Roderick Strong via pinfall

They mention the main event and hype the four way world title match for next week.

We get a video hyping Austin Aries’ chances of winning the title next week. Aries character work lately has been pretty awesome.

Three way women’s match: Sara del Rey vs. Daizee Haze vs. MsChif with Jimmy Jacobs

They actually do some decent three person spots. This moderately freshens up the ongoing 398 part series between Haze and del Rey. MsChif makes it mercifully short after spraying Daizee with green mist and hitting the desecrator DDT for the win.

Winner: MsChif via pinfall

Kyle Durden is in the ring with Jimmy Jacobs and MsChif after the match. Jacobs puts over MsChif as a top soldier in his army then MsChif screams.

Tyler Black gets his hype video for the four way title match. These more naturalistic style interviews are a different thing. These guys are cutting wrestling promos without cutting wrestling promos. It works.

We get a video paid for by the Embassy announcing the very European Claudio Castagnoli as an associate of Prince Nana and the Embassy. Awesome.

Erick Stevens vs. Sami Callahan

They should practically start a losing streak gimmick for Sami Callahan. He has appeared a whole bunch on TV and always loses. He has more appearances than some of the bigger stars. It can only hurt Callahan in the long run. Stevens wins with the Doctor Bomb. Poor Sami Callahan.

Winner: Erick Stevens

We have a via sattelite interview with Nigel McGuinness. Nigel backhand complitments all four men in the world title four way match. Hilarious.

Tables are Legal RoH World Tag Team Title Match: Kevin Steen and El Generico © vs. The American Wolves

The introductions don’t even finish before the action starts. After the brawl settles down Steen and Generico get the early advantage and are the first to go for the tables. Steen and Generico get the tables first, but they also are the first to go through the tables. The spots come fast and furious which is not surprising given the format of this match. The American Wolves get the win after a doomsday bulldog to secure the Ring of Honor tag team championship. This match was high on fun, but low on logic, but that is pretty much what you expect from a Tables are Legal match. This is also the first title change on HDNet so it is significant for that if nothing else.

Winners and New Tag Team Champions: The American wolves of Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards via pinfall

Big Andy Mac’s Big Andy Final thoughts: The shows are starting to feel a little more organic and a little less rigid which is always a good thing. The main event was a ton of fun and the rest of the show was more than passable. The hype machine is going into overtime for the world title match and that is the type of thing that gets fans tuning in week after week.
