Mousasi vs. Sokoudjou Official for DREAM

News

Gegard Mousasi is a busy man these days.

Not only will Mousais be facing off against Renato “Babalu” Sobral at the next Affliction event in August — he’ll also be facing Sokoudjou in the next round of the DREAM Super Hulk tournament.

The Super Hulk tournament is inherently Japanese, but still profoundly interesting, and this matchup is easily one of the best possible fights in the entire tournament. It comes as no surprise that the Japanese are matching Hong Choi Man up with Minowa-man for the next round, because they’re seemingly all about promoting him as a giant killer of epic proportions.

The internet is in love with Mousasi, to the point of ranking him top five in pound for pound rankings, but I’m not sure he’s done anything to deserve that standing. A big win over Sokoudjou, while not entirely a star-making fight, would be a much bigger deal than his easy win over the listless Mark Hunt at DREAM 9. After that, he must face Sobral in August, and if he’s able to overcome both of those opponents I think it’ll be easy to classify him as a top five light heavyweight.
