PWG has announced the card for their June 28th show, titled The Secret of Guerilla Island. Beyond appearances by the exquisitely named Hybrid Dolphins (Bryan Danielson and Roderick Strong), El Generico and Davey Richards, there’s also an interesting storyline developing around the match between the Necro Butcher and Joey Ryan.
It involves Ryan’s quest to stop Chris Hero from breaking his record setting 13 months as PWG Champion. Ryan’s calls for Hero to be stripped of the belt for lack of defenses (which will include the upcoming show, since Hero’s touring Japan right now) have fallen on deaf ears with PWG management. So, he’s decided to appeal to a higher authority:
His calls to the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Board of Directors demanding that Hero be stripped of the title for lack of defenses have gone unreturned, so Joey has taken drastic measures: he’s Twittering about it. Reaching out to upwards of tens of hundreds of people seems to have worked out for Joey, because Chris Hero took time out of his busy schedule to not only read Joey Ryan’s 140 character complaint, but to address it as well.
Which led to the match between Ryan and everyone’s favorite hardcore wrestler/Mickey Rourke co-star, with a title shot hanging in the balance:
If Joey were willing to face Necro in a rematch at The Secret of Guerrilla Island, it would show me that he’s got a lot of heart. If Joey were to beat Necro fair and square, I would consider giving him another title shot…
With one hilarious caveat:
