For weeks there were questions about who would play to coveted role as the DC Comics hero Green Lantern in the live-action film. Rumors were abound. At one point Chris Pine, one of the stars of Star Trek, was considered. But the producers, director and studio were undecided.

In the end, Warners and director Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale, The Mask of Zorro), went with Reynolds, who was considered above Hangover star Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, and Justin Timberlake.

The studio is still working on the picture’s budget (rumored to be upwards of $150 million), but production is expected to begin in January.

Greg Berlanti (TV’s “Eli Stone” and “Everwood”) wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

There’s no word on if Reynolds’ casting will affect Fox’s development of a Deadpool movie, a character Reynolds played in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
