The 23-year-old wife of Artuto Gatti was taken into custody by Brazilian authorities as a suspect in the death of the former boxing champion. Police believe Gatti was strangled to death with the strap of a purse, which was found on the scene with blood stains.
Amanda Rodrigues denied being a part of her husband’s death yet couldn’t explain how she spent ten hours in the same room as Gatti, unaware that he was dead.
Police are also investigating reports that the couple had an argument the day prior. Friends of the couple thought the two were having marital problems.
This is another sad story for boxing. Arturo Gatti was a true warrior and one of the most exciting boxers to watch over the past 15 years.
