Pacquiao, Cotto Reach Agreement

News

The negotiations for a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto have come to an end. Both fighters have made a verbal agreement for a fight on November 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be televised on HBO PPV.

The contracted weight limit was the biggest issue in delaying the making of this fight. Cotto, the 147-pound champion, would not go under 145 lbs. Pacquiao, champ at 140 lbs would not agree to anything over 143. The fight will be at 145 pounds. Cotto won that one, but you can bet it didn’t come without a price.

The paperwork still remains to be signed but Bob Arum, the fight’s promoter, said he wouldn’t release the information if he didn’t think it was a sealed deal.

This fight has been in the works since a bloody yet victorious Cotto stepped out of the ring with Joshua Clottey in June. It’s a big fight matching two exciting fighters that are the pride of their respective countries. Pacquiao’s speed will give Cotto problems but the 145 weight limit really helps Cotto.
