Affliction Trilogy is Canceled

Next Saturday’s beleaguered Affliction Trilogy event has been canceled. Tom Atentico explained the cancellation to Sherdog.com

“Finding an opponent for the number one-ranked MMA heavyweight champion in such a short period of time was a huge endeavor, and I’m thrilled at the amount of fighters willing to take on this challenge,” Affliction Entertainment Vice President Tom Atencio said in a news release. “But in the end, we just didn’t have enough time to promote a new fight to our standards.”

Yahoo! is reporting that Affliction’s PPV provider, Showtime, played a major role in the decision, whilst the Wrestling Observer reports that the decision came just minutes after a new commercial for the show was finalized.

Whatever the reasons for the cancellation there can be no doubt that this is a serious, possibly fatal blow to Affliction. This is the second time that they have had to cancel this event and it will be tough for the struggling promotion to bounce back from this week.
