10 Thoughts On SmackDown – 07.31.09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

1. Half decent promo from Jeff Hardy to open the show, albeit the same old predictable stuff we hear from his every week he gets microphone time.

2. The victor of the Cryme Time vs. Hart Dynasty match was a foregone conclusion as soon as it was announced that the winner would challenge for the tag titles at Summerslam. Oh unpredictability, why have you left WWE?

3. Chris Jericho and Big Shows ‘new’ theme isn’t particularly good, or original. If you’re going to mix two themes together at least make the new theme sound decent.

4. Chris Jericho & Big Show continue to prove that they can be an entertaining team, and Big Show has been a lot more entertaining to watch in the past week than in the recent months.

5. What happens when you put two capable women in the ring with two women who can’t wrestle? A so-so match with a hot finish that just happens to include the two women who can actually wrestle.

6. Thank god Ziggler is still feuding with Rey Mysterio. At least this way I can still hold out hope that Ziggler is going to win the Intercontinental Championship, preferably at Summerslam.

7. I failed to care about Mike Knox at any point in the tag match. That can’t be good for his prospects, can it?

8. How sad is it that Charlie Haas, a man who deserves so much more, is once again jobbing to guys like the Great Khali. At least when ECW does it, they use ‘local talent’.

9. SmackDown hosted an excellent main event, and John Morrison looked superb despite the loss. This just goes to show that young up and coming talent don’t need to be shoved down our throats for them to become fan favourites, and that the best feuds and matches are when both sides involved benefit from it.

10. CM Punk’s assault at the end of SmackDown, coupled with his quite frankly excellent promo at Night of Champions, just proves that he can become the premier heel on SmackDown, something which even I never thought I would say about the man.
