A Modest Blog on What Makes News

Columns, Features

I recently wrote a response to Erik Watts about his comments on Samoa Joe. I got a lot of thoughtful replies and some quite strange almost deliberate misinterpritations of my post, but that’s not the point here. The point is many of the replies were along the lines of “Who the hell is Erik Watts at this point and why should we care what he says” or, “this isn’t news and didn’t warrant a reply.” Much the same thing happenned a year or two ago, when I replied to Disco Inferno’s comments on Bryan Danielson. So, my question to you, the reader, is what makes a good news item to create a column around? There is always news on the top stars of today, but if all that’s interesting is the Raw main event scene, I may be forced to swallow my own tongue… or keyboard… or whatever. So, what interests you personally as the reader? What do you like to see in an article? What do you want to see more of? Less of? And what makes something newsworthy?
