ECW Real-Time Coverage for 8/11/2009

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

Welcome to the EC-Dub!

Tonight we’ll get to see yet another Abraham Washington Show.  Christian will be on the show and I’m sure he’ll have some words about Summerslam.  Also, I’m looking forward to seeing a Ryder-Benjamin match, but nothing’s been announced as far as I can tell.  Well…   On with the Show!

We start with a recap of last week’s Extreme Rules match for the ECW Championship.  Christian won.

Your hosts are Josh Matthews and Matt Striker from Edmonton, Alberta Canada.

And here comes Zack Ryder!  His entrance music totally fits his character.  And we recap last week’s Abraham Washington Show and it looks like I’ll get my wish to start the show.  Shelton Benjamin follows down the ramp.

Zack Ryder vs. Shelton Benjamin

They lock up and Ryder pushes Benjamin to the corner.  He shoulder blocks him a few times.  Benjamin turns him around  delivers some blows.  The ref pulls Benjamin off and Ryder goes to the second rope and hits a missile dropkick on the onrushing Benjamin.  Ryder with a snapshot boot to the face.  Cover for two.  Ryder has a chinlock on Benjamin.  Benjamin starts to fight back and Benjamin hits a neckbreaker.  They trade blows some more and Benjamin then back body drops Ryder off the ropes.  TO the corner and Benjamin hits the Stinger Splash.  He goes for another but runs into an elbow.  Benjamin gets his neck draped over the rope and Ryder then hits a leg lariat.  Awesome.  Ryder goes for the Zack Attack but Benjamin reverses.  He powerbombs Ryder into the turnbuckle and then hits Paydirt for the win.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin

Good match that needed more time.  I had a really hard time keeping up with the action because it flowed so well.  Again, needed more time though.

In the back, Gregory Helms is interviewing Paul Burchill and asks about his match with Yoshi Tatsu tonight.  Paul makes fun of Helms and tells him he should put on his underoos.  Ha!  Burchill takes exception to Helms denying the claim he is Hurricane, so Burchill takes him out.

Commercial break.

We’re back and Vladimir Kozlov is headed to the ring.  Kevin Brooks is already in the ring.  Can’t we see Jackson-Kozlov already?  There’s been feuds a hundred times more interesting that haven’t taken this long.

Vladimir Kozlov vs Kevin Brooks

Kozlov with a lot of offense.  He hits an cool looking airplane spin variation.  Then the Iron Curtain and it’s over.  Thankfully.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov

And here comes Ezekiel Jackson.  Shock.  My heart can’t take the surprises.  He stares down Kozlov.  Predictably he picks up Brooks and hits his Iron Curtain move.  Kozlov does it again.  Kozlov leaves and we see the same exact thing we saw last week.

Later we’ll see Dreamer vs. Regal.

Commercials.

Back to the show and we recap the Triple H/Legacy feud.  We revisit the DX Reunion from last night’s Raw.  That’ll be a squash match at Summerslam.

Now the Bella twins head to the ring as special guest announcers.  I guess they have nothing else to do on this show.  Nikki announces Paul Burchill accompanied by Katie Lea.  Brie then announces Yoshi Tatsu.  Mario music.

Paul Burchill (w/ Katie Lea) vs. Yoshi Tatsu

Bell rings and a huge Yoshi chant starts.  Yoshi takes him down with an armdrag.  Burchill then hits a knee off the ropes.  Stomach breaker.  Burchill with a modified abdominal stretch.  Yoshi fights back and puts Burchill on the mat.  Kicks from Tatsu.  He rolls Burchill over and then kicks him in the chest.  Off the ropes and he obviously misses a kneedrop.  Yoshi is in control and then he goes against the ropes only to get hit by a strap from Katie Lea.  Burchill is disqualified.

Winner:  Yoshi Tatsu (by DQ)

Postmatch, Burchill beats down Yoshi.  STAND BACK, THERE”S A HURRICANE COMING THROUGH!  Burchill looks to the ramp but Hurricane is behind him and hits the cross body off the top rope.  He pounds on Burchill some more and Burchill runs out of the ring.  Hurricane helps Yoshi up and they both celebrate in the ring.  Cool segment.

Commercial break.

We recap the events before the commercial.  Man, Katie Lea looks hot.

We’re in the back and the Burchills are talking to Tiffany.  They demand that Tiffany talk to Vince about Hurricane.  Tiffany says she’ll take care of it but doesn’t like ultimatums.

Tyler Reks heads to the ring next.  Tom James is already in the ring.

Tyler Reks vs. Tom James

Bell rings and they lock up.  Armdrag from Reks.  Another lock up and Reks powers James to the corner.  Dirty break from James.  Sends Reks to the ropes and Reks hits the flying clothesline.  Reks goes to work on the left arm of James.  James fights out but Reks quickly back in control.  Springboard missile dropkick and this one is over.

Winner: Tyler Reks

Abraham Washington is in the back and it looks like his show is up next.

Commercial break.

We’re back and here is the Abraham Washington Show. Washington grabs the mic and thanks the booing crowd.  He welcomes everyone to the show.  After last weeks stinker of a show, he brought the show to Canada.  He says he doesn’t feel safe in Canada because the national sport is a sport where a bunch of white men beat on a black object with sticks.  Is it a sport or a LAPD event?  Ha!  He gives a shout out to Hulk Hogan who’s birthday it is today.  Then he welcomes his first guest, the original Elephant Man, Christian.  Ha!  Washington goes to shake Christian’s hand but Christian just grabs a mic.  Another handshake attempt and this time Christian takes the offered hand.  Washington welcomes him back to the show.  Christian says this show isn’t exactly the Peep Show, but it’s great to be back with Arsenio Hall.  Washington says he is glad Christian still has a sense of humor after last weeks match.  We get another recap of that match.

Washington says that was horrible.  And he just means Christian’s face.  Did Dreamer hit him with a Singapore cane or an ugly stick?  He then asks if Christian and Dreamer are still friends.  Christian says that he is.  Washington asks him if he is bribing Dreamer with ice cream?  Ha!  Christian says if Washington says anything negative again about him or Dreamer, Washington will need a dentist.  Christian then says last week was very difficult but he’s looking forward.  He’s ready to be the face of ECW.  Washington says he has breaking news for Christian.  His next guest is the #1 contender for the ECW championship.  Please welcome… William Regal!  Awesome!  Regal says last week was nothing extreme, sunshine.  The English are the most brutal and barbaric race in the world.  If Christian doesn’t believe him, he needs to watch what he’ll do to Dreamer… Next!

Regal is in the ring awaiting Dreamer.  And here he comes.  And he’s limping.

William Regal vs. Tommy Dreamer

Bell rings and Regal immediately goes after a bandaged left arm. Dreamer fights back and Regal retreats outside the ring.  Dreamer goes after him and slams Regal’s head into the announce table.  He rolls Regal back in the ring and goes for a suplex but Regal counters by pushing Dreamer into the ringpost.  Regal back outside and he kicks the injured arm against the ringpost.  Both men back in and a big Regal sucks chant starts.  Regal is in control, working on the left arm again.  Striker told us Dreamer injured that arm by getting a crutch shot last week from Christian.  One of the butterfly screws embedded into his arm.  Ouch.  Regal still in control and he tried to bite the tape off of the arm.  Ha!  Dreamer reverses an armbar and hits an armdrag.  Dreamer with some offense until he runs into a knee in the corner.  Regal back after the arm of Dreamer.  Whip to the corner and Regal runs into an elbow.  Dreamer goes to the second rope but is caught by Regal.  Regal goes for a superplex but is thrown off.  Dreamer with a flying clothesline from the second rope.  Shots from Dreamer and then a clothesline.  Dreamer goes for the DDT but Regal counters by attacking the injured arm.  Regal goes for the big knee but Dreamer counters and hits a spinebuster.  He sets up Regal in the corner and the ECW chant starts.  He hits the baseball slide.  Slam from Dreamer and a cover for two and Regal gets the foot on the ropes.  Regal rolls to the apron and Dreamer goes after him but Regal pulls the injured arm over the top rope.  Regal rushes back in and hits the big knee lift and covers for the win.

Winner: William Regal

Postmatch, Regal gets Dreamer in the Regal Stretch.  Eventually, Christian comes in for the save but Regal bails before Christian can get his hands on him.

Pretty good show tonight.  Two squashes is a bit much, but I’m excited about the return of Hurricane and ecstatic about William Regal going into Summerslam as the #1 contender.  Abraham Washington Show works a lot more when it’s for a purpose like last week for the Ryder-Benjamin feud or announcing the #1 contender tonight.  Abraham Washington is good on the mic but the writing is awful.  Anyway, see you next week kids.
