News

The following news items were posted on the August 11, 2009 ROH Newswire:

The latest edition of the ROH Videowire went live on Monday.  This edition includes interviews with Davey Richards and Kenny Omega, a sneak peak at “A Cut Above.”  It also includes words from Sonjay Dutt and from Chris Hero, who had a stern message for KENTA in anticipation of their August 14th (6-man tag) and 15th (one-on-one) match-ups.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_B9fnbdMkM.

As previously mentioned, starting August 17th, ROH on HDNet is moving to Monday.  The show will be broadcast at 8 PM ET and then replayed at 11 PM ET.  Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XONIUD_0Ea4 for a video commemorating ROH’s move into prime time.  (WRITER’S NOTE:  Be sure to log on to Pulse Wrestling the next day, August 18th, for the debut of my weekly “10 Thoughts on ROH on HDNet” column!)

The September 19th ROH show in Chicago has just gotten even hotter, as fans will be treated to yet another chapter to ROH’s biggest ongoing rivalry.  Yes, folks, Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black will meet one-on-one on September 19th! After two unsuccessful attempts to defeat Danielson, Tyler finally climbed that mountain in their May 30th encounter in Philadelphia (aired on HDNet on July 25), courtesy of the Small Package Driver.  Danielson is eager to avenge that loss, and fans will no doubt be treated to another classic match-up between these two.

As geared up as Danielson is for Black, however, he would be wise to not look past his previous night’s opponent.  Signed for the September 18th show in Dayton is a match between Danielson and Chris Hero, who has been on a tear since returning from a very successful tour of Japan for Pro Wrestling NOAH and looks to continue to climb up the ranks.  What better way to do it than a victory over the American Dragon?

The September 18th show is certainly shaping up to be a good one.  As if Danielson v. Hero wasn’t enough, fans in Dayton will be treated to a match-up containing personal implications.  Last time ROH was in Detroit, Austin Aries arguably cost Petey Williams a victory in the scramble match - a victory that would have earned Williams a shot at the ROH World Title.  Williams has refused to take Aries’ actions lying down:  “I had that match won,” said Petey. “I was this close to earning a title match, and he stole it.  If Aries is any kind of man, any kind of champion, he’ll give me a match.  He’s knows I can beat him.”  Aries has responded in kind: “Petey Williams hasn’t done anything in ROH to put himself in a position to face me.  Sure, if he’d won that scramble in Detroit, he would have.  But he didn’t.  And the circumstances surrounding it…are HIS problem.  I’m A-Double, perhaps the greatest that ever lived, and I did what needed to be done.  That’s what the great ones do.  But I’ll throw Petey a bone because I’m a generous man.  Tell Petey to bring a partner to Dayton, and me and ‘Addicted to Love’ will feel him out.”  So on September 18th in Dayton, it will be Austin Aries and Rhett Titus vs. Petey Williams and a partner of his choosing.

As was evident from the August 7th newswire, ROH’s tag team division is really heating up these days.  Fans at the September 19th show in Chicago will be treated to another match-up between two of ROH’s young, hungry, up-and-coming teams, as Matt and Nick Jackson – The Young Bucks – will take on Jon Davis and Kory Chavis – the Dark City Fight Club.  The DCFC have been on the fast track to recapture the momentum they’d garnered before Davis’ wrist injury, and a win against the Young Bucks would do just that.  As for the Young Bucks, a win over one of ROH’s more established teams would go a long away toward shooting them up the tag ranks.

ROH appears to be considering a Ring of Honor Video-on-Demand Service.  Fans can let ROH know what they’d like to see via www.twitter.com/rohonhdnet, www.facebook.com/ringofhonor, or at www.myspace.com/ringofhonor.

Speaking of additional programming, fans may now watch Chris Hero vs. Frankie The Mobster from “The Hunt Begins” in Montreal, Quebec on April 17, 2009.  The match is posted at http://www.you-tube.com/watch?v=vYmrTYarORY.   Additional matches will be released in the near future on Ring of Honor’s You Tube Channel.
