WWE Contract Status of Jeff Hardy, J.R., The King

News

PW Torch is reporting that Jeff Hardy is expected to finish his commitment to WWE at Summerslam. They point out that Matt Hardy hyped their tag match on Smackdown as the possible last Hardy Boys match ever on Twitter. (He did the same thing in his most recent WWE Universe blog entry).

Besides talking up the Rise and Fall of WCW DVD (he seems genuinely excited about it), bookers, and Brock’s next UFC fight, Jim Ross addresses his contract situation in his latest blog entry. His Summerslam surprise isn’t an announcement that he’s retiring from broadcasting (he’s going to be appearing on the Food Network), although he doesn’t rule that out:

Some of my peers thought I was going to announce that I was leaving WWE when my contract expires later this year. Sorry to disappoint them, that was a joke BTW, but I’m still not at that bridge yet and those types of decisions will be made later in the year in a professional manner

Would I like to slow down a little and not travel every week? You bet…if it could be arranged but, again, time will tell and it certainly isn’t something that has me concerned.

And what about the King’s broadcast partner, Jerry Lawler, and his WWE status considering his bid to become the mayor of Memphis? PW Torch’s James Caldwell has a recap of Lawler’s appearance on Fight Network Radio where he talks about the possibility of juggling both jobs:

“City charter says the mayor of Memphis job is a full-time job. I am unsure what could possibly happen. There could be a way I could take Monday as a day off instead of Sunday or Saturday,”

Lawler also talks about the pros and cons of being a well known pro wrestler seeking public office, what he plans to do if elected, and what he thinks about Hulk Hogan’s work rate:

“Hulk Hogan, the guy was a great communicator. Hulk was never a great wrestler. He’ll never claim that either. He was a one-trick pony. His matches were very similar.”

UPDATE: In case he wasn’t clear before, Ross has once again blogged that his contract status is not an issue.
