10 Thoughts on TNA iMPACT! – 8.20.09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

1. Taz has officially replaced Don West as the color commentator alongside Mike Tenay. I do think that Taz is an upgrade, but I also think that West was better than most people gave him credit for, and I would much rather see Tenay replaced. Anyway, good luck to Mr. West with his new role in TNA.
2. You know, for as much as people say that TNA’s women’s division is so much better than WWE’s, right now they’re running an angle in which a blithering idiot redneck has a legitimate claim to the title. I’m just sayin’.
3. I would have been excited about Mick Foley versus Abyss years ago, but Foley has shown with every match he’s had in TNA that he just doesn’t have it anymore. He’s one of my favorites of all-time but I don’t think anything he’s done in TNA has helped his legacy at all.
4. So to compensate for not getting any TV time recently, they run “infomercials” in which Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley are selling themselves for $2,000 an hour to hang out? The Guns are of course entertaining but this is really the best they can come up with for them? How is that supposed to get them over in any way?
5. Years ago, Samoa Joe and Homicide had intense, brutal matches in Ring of Honor. Those days are over.
6. They’re really adding a Knockouts Tag Team Title? So a company with one brand needs SIX titles? WWE has eight titles, but spread across three brands. I did read that they might start a new show just for the Knockouts, but can’t they wait until then before introducing another new title? And Tara saying “WWE never would have thought of it” was hilarious. They wouldn’t think of it because it’s stupid. I hate TNA sometimes.
7. Elijah Burke made his long-awaited debut on the pay-per-view, and made his iMPACT debut tonight. I hate the new name, “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero, and I never understood why so many others are on the Internet have been so wild about him since WWE let him go.
8. I don’t know exactly what’s going on with AJ Styles, but hopefully he’s just taking some time off and then will come back to a huge push. I’m not the biggest AJ Styles fan, but he has been just about the only huge star TNA has created, but he always seems to be treated like an afterthought. And I hate friends like Sting, who think they’re helping but are really just making it about themselves and being jerks about it too. Shut the f#$% up Sting.
9. Bobby Lashley’s new nickname is “The Boss.” Are you kidding me? Who came up with that, and what exactly is it that makes him “The Boss?” He has nothing in common with Bruce Springsteen, that’s for sure. What a stupid, awful nickname.
10. Dixie Carter is coming to TV. Yes, TNA is so much different than WWE.
