10 Thoughts on SmackDown – 08.21.09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

1. Big six man opening match that actually does something to build towards Summerslam. I’m actually looking forward to both the Intercontinental and Tag Team titles matches at Summerslam.

2. Ah, the continuing feud between Kane and The Great Khali. At least I know when my break will be during Summerslam.

3. Its good to see Mike Knox getting some character development. I do have a sad feeling it may not lead anywhere in the long, but if there’s a chance that Knox can finally get a personality then it cannot be a bad thing.

4. If Jeff Hardy is indeed leaving following Summerslam then they provided the perfect set up during his segment. His talk about the doctors telling him to retire means that all they need to do is have one spot that completely takes Jeff out of the match, and in turn, force him to ‘retire’.

5. Every week CM Punk becomes a more convincing heel. Its interesting to go back and look at his earlier stuff when he began his heel run with WWE, and now just nearly two months later he is one of the most entertaining heels in the WWE.

6. Did anyone else get the feeling that the entire Diva’s tag team match was more about Michelle McCool than any of the women in the ring?

7. Jesse’s finally getting regular air time! Even if it is in a role that is solely reliant on Cryme Time right now.

8. With Matt Hardy getting the pin over CM Punk, does anybody else see Matt becoming CM Punk’s next feud if he wins the World Heavyweight Championship at Summerslam. It would be an entertaining match if Punk is the one who gets the blame for ‘pushing’ Jeff Hardy out of the company.

9. The two superb six man tag matches made up for the other two lacklustre matches on this weeks SmackDown. I have to say that one or two debuts could really benefit SmackDown.

10. Onto a few Summerslam predictions for the SmackDown side of things. The Great Khali over Kane, possible via DQ, Dolph Ziggler over Rey Mysterio for the Intercontinental championship, Big Show & Chris Jericho over Cryme Time and CM Punk over Jeff Hardy for the World Heavyweight Championship.
