Inside Pulse’s RoH on HDNet Report, 8-23-09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

Welcome back to the Inside Pulse report on RoH on HDNet. It’s been delayed a couple of weeks because life sometimes just gets in the way. I attended these tapings live which you can read about here. Will it hold up? Read on to find out…

We start the show with highlights from all the way back on June 6th while Jerry Lynn was still champion. We see Aries taunting Lynn, Nigel taunting Lynn, and Aries winning the title.

Hog and Prazak promise us an answer from Jerry Lynn about his future in RoH tonight.

Tony Kozina and Sami Callahan vs. Kevin Steen and El Generico

Kozina trips while entering the ring. This is an extended squash/tag formula salad. Kozina and Callahan do get their share of offense, but they are obviously no match for Steen and Generico. Steen was the big star of the match with a double Samoan drop and powerbombing Callahan onto a bent over Kozina. Steenerico get the win with the Brainbuster/Package Piledriver combo. It was fun and simple.

Winners: Kevin Steen and El Generico via pinfall

Roderick Strong has to deal with Kyle Durden in the back. I have a feeling Kyle smells like way too much “Curve” knockoff cologne. Call it a hunch. Roderick doesn’t forget any of his lines in his promo. Good for him.

Dlo Brown vs. John Kermon

I feel bad for John Kermon. He is getting sacrificed to Dlo Brown. This goes on way way too long. Dlo wins with the second rope Low Down or sky high…the power bomb one.

Winner: Dlo Brown via pinfall

Kyle Durden comes out to annoy Dlo Brown. Dlo gets mad about being asked about Jerry Lynn’s retirement. Kyle Durden is a lousy journalist. Dlo shrugs him off and calls Jerry Lynn old.

We get a message paid for by the Embassy to talk about their 8 man tag team match coming up next week. This match was fun. Tune in if you can. The Embassy is awesome.

Nigel is in the back talking about his loss to Tyler Black he gets interrupted by Tyler Black going out to the ring to talk to the crowd. Tyler should really just wrestle. Tyler says things that I don’t care about including Jerry Lynn. Jerry Lynn comes out to announce his future in the business. He talks for way too long and finally gets to the point where he says he won’t retire. That took way too long.

Non Title Main Event: Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong

I loved the hell out of this match live. I really hope it is even half as good. They start with stuff on the mat and put on some of the best mat wrestling I have seen on TV in quite some time. Strong is the first one to get a clear advantage with his backbreakers and chops. Aries gets all of his control after capitalizing on cheating and other underhanded tactics. They have some awesome back and forth and Aries finally steals the win after a roll up with some feet on the ropes for assistance. This match isn’t quite as good as I remember but it’s still awesome.

Winner: Austin Aries via pinfall

Big Andy Mac’s Big Andy Final Thoughts: This show was short on wrestling but it had one truly awesome match.
