ECW Real-Time Coverage for 8/25/2009

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

Welcome to the EC-Dub!

Captain Charisma maintained his title at Summerslam but took a post-match beatdown from William Regal, Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson.  It’ll be interesting to see how it progresses from here.  I was sorely disappointed that we got an 8 second ECW title match at Summerslam, though.  Seriously, we had to watch Kane/Khali but we can’t get a decent ECW Championship match?  And the WWE Championship match was just awful.  Really, really awful.  Painful awful.  At least the TLC match made it all worthwhile.  Anyway, on with the show!

We start with a recap of the aforementioned Summerslam.  The Regal Roundtable stood tall.

Your hosts are Josh Matthews and Matt Striker from Phoenix, AZ.

Regal’s music hits and he heads to the ring with Kozlov and Jackson.  He grabs a mic and says that ECW will never be the same again because of those three.  He reminds us that Jackson and Kozlov were one-upping each other but they didn’t clash like everyone thought they would.  He says he was the mind behind bringing the two together on the same team.  He calls out Christian and tells him that his championship reign is almost over.  Christian’s music hits and here comes Captain Charisma.  He stands at the ring entrance with a  mic of his own.  He says despite Regal’s “evil genius” he already beat Regal in a championship match at a record breaking 8 seconds.  Regal says he wasn’t ready.  Christian hilariously repeats 8 seconds.  Regal calls him sunshine and demands a rematch.  Christian calls him Bill and Regal gets mad.  Bill chant immediately starts.  Regal says Bill is a commoner name.  Christian says he wants to move on to another challenger, one that he didn’t defeat in 8 seconds.

Tiffany comes out and says Christian did take advantage of Regal as he wasn’t ready.  But, Regal has to earn another championship chance.  She sets up a non-title match tonight of Regal vs. Christian and if Regal wins, he gets a championship match.

We get a video package of the Goldust/Sheamus feud and another match is up next.

Sheamus comes down the ramp and Goldust soon follows.

Sheamus vs. Goldust

Bell rings and Sheamus quickly throws Goldust to the mat.  He powers Goldust to the corner and slaps him in the face.  Goldust takes Sheamus down and slaps him around.  Side headlock from Goldust that Sheamus counters to a side suplex.  Sheamus in control and gets a chinlock on Goldust.  He throws Goldust against the ropes and hammers him in the back.  Elbow drops from Sheamus and a cover for two.  Knees to the back and then a submission stretch.  Goldust up and hits an inverted ataomic drop.  Off the ropes and a clothesline.  Powerslam from Goldust and a cover for two.  Bulldog from Goldust.  He hits the flatliner and covers for two.  Sheamus rolls outside the ring.  Goldust tries to bring him in but Sheamus pulls Goldust out.  They fight on the outside trading blows.  Sheamus throws Goldust against the security wall.  Goldust then throws Sheamus against the steel steps.  Meanwhile, the ref counts to ten and this one is over.

Draw (double countout)

Sheamus retreats to the back while Goldust calls him out.  Not the best match but I do like this feud.  I’m glad they’re getting more time with it.

Commercial break.

We’re back and Shelton Benjamin is in the back with the Bella twins.  They want him to sing a Louie Armstrong song.  Ryder interrupts and says the ladies want a real man not an impression.  Ryder asks what Benjamin is doing.  Benjamin says he is about to smack up Ryder.  Tiffany says Ryder better get ready for his tag team match against Tyler Reks and Yoshi Tatsu.  She says his partner is (wait for it).. Shelton Benjamin.

We then recap the Hurricane/Burchill feud.  They are going to fight this week on Superstars.  Courtney Taylor is in the back with Paul and Katie Lea Burchill.  Burchill asks if Taylor will follow her predecessor and wear a Wonder Woman costume.  He says that if Taylor stays around longer than a coffee can she shouldn’t insult his intelligence and call him the Hurricane.  It is Gregory Helms.  He says Helms won’t be saving anyone this Thursday.

Between Tiffany and Courtney Taylor, I don’t know if I can continue to take the horrific acting.  Seriously, they don’t look THAT good to make me suffer through them.

Shelton Benjamin heads to the ring and this should be interesting.  His partner, Zack Ryder comes down.  His music fits him so well.  WooWooWoo.  Benjamin and Ryder immediately have words.  Tyler Reks and Yoshi Tatsu come out next to Tatsu’s music.  They have a video package of Tatsu and Reks which was pretty lame.

Shelton Benjamin and Zack Ryder vs. Yoshi Tatsu and Tyler Reks

Benjamin and Reks start out.  Benjamin mat wrestles him to the ground.  Reks counters and gets a side headlock.  Sunset flip off the ropes from Reks and covers for two.  They trade small packages.  Benjamin catapults Reks to the corner but Reks stops himself and hits the cross body from the second turnbuckle.  Benjamin up and gains control.  He tries to tag Ryder but Ryder pretends to tie his shoe.  Benjamin in control and while Reks is down Ryder gets tagged in.  Ryder with a chinlock.  Reks to his feet and tries to fight out.  Ryder off the ropes and they double cross body each other.  Ryder tags in Benjamin and Reks fights him off to tag Tatsu.  Tatsu takes it to Benjamin and kicks him down.  Tatsu to the top rope but Benjamin throws him off the top rope.  Benjamin then hip tosses Ryder into the ring.  They have words and Ryder throws Benjamin into Tatsu.  Ryder sizes up Tatsu but Tatsu catches him with the kick to the head.  Cover and win!

Winners: Tyler Reks and Yoshi Tatsu

Benjamin doesn’t look happy and he goes into the ring to confront Ryder.  Ryder pleads his case but Benjamin hits him with the Paydirt.  Weird ending to this one.  The feud will continue, though.

Back to the show and we get a Summerslam recap.   Who is BooBoo Stewart and why does anyone care if he(?) is at Summerslam?

William Regal heads to the ring with his lackeys.  Christian heads down next.

Christian (c) vs. William Regal w/ Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson (non-title match)

Regal removed his robe before Christian got anywhere near him.  Nice.  They lock up and they move around the ring.  Christian goes for the Killswitch but Regal pushes out.  Another lock up and Christian gets a headlock and brings him to the mat.  Back up and Regal whips him to the ropes but misses the knee and gets armdragged down.  Chinlock from Christian.  Regal counters and they chain for a while until Christian gets the upperhand with a side headlock again.  Another push to the ropes and a shoulder block doesn’t put Regal down.  A hip toss does, though and Regal bails to the outside.  Christian hits the baseball slide and Regal goes down.  Christian tries to jump off the apron onto Regal but Kozlov and Jackson step in front and Christian rethinks it.

Commercial break.

I can’t wait for Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus this weekend on SyFy.  Debbie (I mean Deborah) Gibson has fallen really far.

We’re back and Regal is in control.  Christian is fighting back but gets caught in an exploder suplex.  Regal goes for the knee but misses and Christian hits the springboard sunset flip for two.  Regal goes to the outside and Christian chases only to get thrown to the floor.  Christian barely beat the count back in and Regal stomps him.  Regal with a front face lock and then some blows to the head.  Uppercut.  Cover for two.  Whip to the corner but he runs into an elbow.  Christian with some blows of his own.  Regal kicks him in the midsection and the rally is stopped.  Cover for two.  Uppercut again.  Regal sucks chant.  Christian fighting back and goes for a backslide and gets it for a two count.  Regal on the offensive again and puts a cobra clutch on Christian.  Elbow to the head.  Christian falls in the corner and Regal rakes his eyes.  He puts Christian on the top turnbuckle and Christian fights him off.  He hits the cross body from the top rope and covers for two.  Both men get up and trade blows.  Christian gets the best of it hits a back body drop on Regal.  He goes to the second rope and hits the missile dropkick.  To the top and another missile dropkick.  Cover for a long two.  Christian hits a tornado DDT off the top.  Cover for two.  Regal reverses Christian into the corner and hits an elbow.  Cover for two.  Christian sends Regal to the outside and goes after him.  He shoves Regal back in the ring and cheapshots Kozlov.  Christian goes after Regal and Jackson distracts the ref.  Christian goes for the Killswitch and Regal throws him against the ropes where Kozlov is waiting and hits a headbutt to the midsection.  Regal hits the Knee Trembler for the win!

Winner: William Regal

Regal is once again #1 contender and he celebrates with his muscleheads to close the show.

See you next week, kids.  Don’t forget to watch Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.
