Jimi Hendrix Biopic in the Works

Disc Announcements, News

Thomas Tull, who recently produced the rock documentary It Might Get Loud is developing a feature film about the rock god through Legendary Pictures.

Max Borenstein, who wrote What Is Life Worth?, is penning the script.

Over the years there have been numerous rumored attempts to make a Hendrix film. with names like Lenny Kravitz and Andre Benjamin circling them. However, no one has yet been able to lock down rights with Experience Hendrix, the estate which is run by the late musician’s stepsister Janie Hendrix.

Legendary has been in loose discussions with the estate, but there has yet to surface a firm rights deal that will be needed to move forward with the project. Legendary’s plan is to develop the project first, but will they be able to woo Janie Hendrix?

Jimi Hendrix has a bright but short career performing at festivals like Woodstock, Monterey Pop and Isle of Wight. Hendrix was a trail blazer with the guitar, from his technique to his fashion sense and theatrics that included lighting guitars on fire and smashing them onstage. Though only in the spotlight a short time, his influence still echoes today. He died in 1970 came just three years after the release of the first Jimi Hendrix Experience album, “Are You Experienced?”

Assuming Tull will be able to secure the rights to Jimi Hendrix the big question is: Who will play the rock legend?
