Psych – Episode 4-3 Review

Shows

This episode returned to the feeling I think a Psych episode should emit. I love whenever Psych has a themed episode like this western one. Though they are a little far fetched for a crime solving show I think we can all agree thats what gives Psych it’s unique and fun personality.

Flashback: Henry is angry at Shawn for digging a hole in the yard. Shawn’s explanation it’s his grave. He and Gus were playing cowboys and Gus killed him. Henry makes Shawn fill in the hole.

Present: Shawn and Gus are uncomfortable in Lassie’s car because he has not told them where they are going and he has locked the doors. The secrecy is because Lassiter wants their help investigating in a town thats out of his jurisdiction called Old Senora. What is so special about Old Senora? It’s actually an old mining town, now tourist trap, where Lassie spent most of his weekends as a kid. Lassiter wants Shawn and Gus to aide Hank, the owner of Old Senora, in finding the answer of some unexplained things happening in the town. Since Lassie can’t be seen investigating in Old Senora he leaves them to camp out overnight.

Gus, Shawn, and Hank have set up camp in the woods. Hank tells them the story of The Ghost Rider. He also tells them some about Lassiter, or as he calls him, Binky. Their conversation is cut short by the sound of horses. Hank goes out to investigate. The wind blows the fire out and Shawn and Gus set out to find Hank. Gus falls down, after tripping over a dead body. If things were not bad enough Hank gets his leg injured after getting trampled by horses.

Hank refuses to go to a hospital so they bring him to Henry’s house. Henry takes care of the injuries as much as he can. Now Old Senora needs a new sherif and Shawn is up for that challenge.

Shawn arrives for his first day as sheriff. He gathers the townsfolk but finds them uncooperative.

Back at the police department they have identified the body as Frank McBain, an man who was trying to buy the land that Old Senora is on. Lassiter determines that McBain was the person trying to sabotage Old Senora in order to get Hank to sell him the land. But now that McBain has been found dead the case is no longer about vandalism its about murder, and the prime suspect is Hank. Hank claims that after declining the offer he never heard from McBain’s company again even though McBain’s secretary says that he’s been to the land a few times.

In Old Senora, Shawn and Gus have given up on trying to question suspects because they have been mean. Lassiter tells them that because they have not been doing anything Hank has become the prime suspect and now he wants them to go find them a lead.

The first stop on their list is the saloon. Immediately after entering the saloon, Shawn thinks he sees Stinky Pete and opens fire on a tourist. Then they interview Miss Annie who confesses to have been Hank’s lover. Outside they talk to Tripsy who claims Hank was like a brother to him. But after Shawn recognizes his distinct foot print matches the one he saw right before the horse stampede Tripsy admits that he was working with McBain as an inside man. Though a traitor Tripsy is neither the killer or the vandal. Shawn asks him if there are any other employees still there. Tripsy says no which means the mysterious person riding the horse on the hill is the Ghost Rider. Shawn and Gus follow the Ghost Rider ending up at a sealed mine shaft.

Shawn tells Lassiter that even after McBain was killed the vandalism continued. Therefore, someone else must be interested in obtaining the land and they killed McBain to eliminate the competition. Lassiter sends Shawn and Gus back to Old Senora to find out who.

Hank is back in Old Senora to pack up and move to another town. He has even signed the deal to hand the land over already.

The chief has the ballistics report on the gun that killed McBain and wants Lassiter’s help identifying the weapon. It came from a gun that matches one Hank has. Lassiter checks Hank’s gun and it has been firing live rounds. Hank claims to have shot a rat with it. With no choice Lassiter has Hank arrested.

Shawn and Gus go back to Old Senora to find some proof of Hank’s innocence. While researching around the mine shaft the ground collapses and they fall into the underground mining tunnels. Down there they find some mining tools and gold veins. This explains everything, the killer wanted the land for the gold and was stealing wood to prop up the shaft. It was Stinky Pete who also has the same kind of gun as Hank.

Hank’s gun does not match the slug. He tells them that Stinky Pete has the same gun as him because they were both part on the set.

Stinky Pete finds Shawn and Gus in the shaft and buries them in to prevent them from exposing him. As the cops are on their way Shawn and Gus are trying to get out of the shaft. Luckily Shawn spots a way and they are able to free themselves.

The cops have surrounded Stinky Pete but he refuses to go peacefully. It’s him versus Lassiter in a draw. Lassiter wins shooting Stinky Pete in the chest.

Lassiter and Hank say goodbye to each other. Hank thinks it’s time to quit Old Senora and move on with his life. Hank also turns around and proposes to Miss Annie. As they watch Hank and Miss Annie kiss, Lassie tells Shawn if he ever calls him Binky again he’ll shoot him.
