News

The following news items were posted on the August 25th edition of the ROH Newswire:

As has been previously reported, “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson has agreed in principle to a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment.  ROH wishes Danielson the best as he opens the next chapter of his career, and has labeled all of the September ROH events the “Final Countdown Tour”.  The dates are as follows:  September 10th and 11th (ROH on HDNet tapings in Philadelphia), 18th (Dayton), 19th (Chicago), 25th (Boston), and 26th (“Glory By Honor VIII:  The Final Countdown”, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City).  Tickets for these shows are available in ROH’s website.

On the topic of the Final Countdown Tour, ROH has signed Danielson v. Davey Richards for the September 25th show in Boston.  Bret “The Hitman” Hart will also be on hand for that show.

ROH officials have granted Petey Williams’ request for a match against ROH World Champion Austin Aries.  That match will happen September 19th, in Chicago.  That match, however, will not be for the title, as Aries is scheduled to defend the strap against Danielson at Glory By Honor VII in NYC – the last leg of the Final Countdown Tour.

Also booked for the September shows are The American Wolves vs. The Briscoe Brothers (September 19th in Chicago – see below), The Young Bucks vs. Cheech & Cloudy (September 25th in Boston) and Kenny Omega v. Claudio Castagnoli (Glory By Honor VIII).

The following wrestlers have been signed for the six weeks of ROH on HDNet tapings in Philadelphia on September 10th and 11th:  The Young Bucks, Kevin Steen and El Generico (9/10 only), Eddie Kingston, Kenny King, Rhett Titus, Sonjay Dutt, “Skullkrusher” Rasche Brown, and the Super Smash Brothers (9/10 only).

Look for the upcoming ROH Videowire (which WILL be posted in this here fine column), where Mark and Jay Briscoe comment on The American Wolves’ retraction of their challenge to The Briscoe Brothers for a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Titles.  As a result of that retraction, the September 19th match between The Briscoe Brothers and The American Wolves will be non-title.  The American Wolves are still scheduled to defend the belts against Steen & Generico at Glory By Honor VIII, in Ladder War II.

ROH congratulates Colt Cabana on his stand-up comedy debut at the Improv in Hollywood, before what is said to be a sold-out house.
