10 Thoughts on SmackDown – 08.28.09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

1. The big match we all knew was coming is set for the main event with the big stipulation added early on. Truthfully as soon as it was announced as ‘loser leaves town’ everybody who reads any kind of wrestling news site will have known the result.

2. SmackDown featured on of the most interesting opening matches in recent memory. Four guys, all of which deserve the pushes they have recently received, all putting on a great tag team match. It’s good to see that at least one of the brands know how to build up their midcard.

3. Wow, Maria falls for the old “it’s my sister” line. I think we all know where this is going. And Dolph and Maria made such an interesting couple as well.

4. Whats this?! Fresh young talent actually getting a decent role on the show. Oh wait, this isn’t that other two hour WWE show. It’s good to see McIntyre back on WWE tv and it’s about time somebody attacked R-Truth during that entrance.

5. My biggest problem about the Melina and Michelle McCool should probably be that McCool still seems to injured to actually take part, but it isn’t. The real problem is that Melina is acting like a heel against a heel Michelle McCool. When is SmackDown going to get a compelling face Diva?

6. So we all know by now about Rey Mysterio’s suspension and since this edition of SmackDown was taped prior to that announcement they are still hyping Ziggler’s title shot. It will be interesting to see what they do with the title and whether Rey Mysterio can bounce back upon his return.

7. Why are they doing this to me?! I don’t think I can survive another Kane/ Great Khali match without screaming. SmackDown consistently has a bad point every week and it seems to be tradition that it involves Kane and Khali.

8. There was no need  for another Big Show/ Chris Jericho vs. Cryme Time match on SmackDown. Their feud ended at Summerslam and the tag champions are already engaged in a new feud for the titles so this did nothing but cheapen the blowoff match they had at Summerslam.

9. So the end for Jeff Hardy came in the form of a very good steel cage match. There aren’t many wrestlers whose final match is a world title match but Jeff Hardy has thankfully left on good terms and with the door wide open for a return. Hopefully Jeff Hardy will make a return sometime next year since to come back sooner would clearly cheapen his decision to leave.

10. WWE made the right move with having CM Punk lay out Jeff Hardy. Punk was made to look even more like a cheap heel champion with the attack on a departing babyface and it will do wonders for his feud with the Undertaker in the long term.
