Lena Headey is moving on from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles to join the cast of HBO’s fantasy pilot Game of Thrones, where she’ll be playing the role of Cersei Lannister. The Chicago Tribune’s Mo Ryan, who broke the news of Headey’s casting, describes the
Her character is described as a royal who’s “every bit as smart, cunning and devious as the powerful men around her.” Headey joins a cast that also includes Peter Dinklage, Sean Bean, Jennifer Ehle, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Mark Addy. The pilot is scheduled to film in the fall.
Game of Thrones is based on the Song of Fire and Ice novels by George R.R. Martin. If HBO does decide to order the pilot to series, it likely wouldn’t make it to air until at least late 2010.
