WWE Superstars Recap 9/03/09

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

The college football season kicks-off tonight but that doesn’t mean the wrestling world is taking a break. Tonight on WGN we’ve got some 6-person mixed tag-team action as well as the high-flying Evan Bourne in action. So if you had your TV locked on ESPN, I’ll tell you what you missed on this week’s WWE Superstars!

Evan Bourne vs Chris Masters: You can almost hear the internet squirm when they see this match-up. Good camera work as the match starts to show the size difference between the two men. Early on Masters uses his power advantage to out-muscle Bourne and Evan uses his quickness to stay out of any real trouble. Very, very slowly Masters starts to work on the lower back of Bourne and the crowd starts to lose interest. Evan makes a brief comeback with a head scissors but gets caught when he tries to go to the top rope for a follow-up. Masters then hits him with a backbreaker so powerful it sends him out of the ring and the audience into a commercial break.

As we return Masters has Bourne up in the Torture Rack which Evan is able to escape from but he is not able to escape trouble as Masters soon has him up on the shoulder again in what I’d call another “torture rack like” maneuver. Bourne is able to slip out of a Masterlock attempt and Master’s misses a charge into the corner hitting the post instead. Evan follows with a knee to his face while he is hung-up and then hits the Air Bourne for the pinfall victory. The match was way too slow but at least the right guy went over.

William Regal vs Tyler Reks: Kozlov and Jackson accompany William to ringside for his match. I am a big fan of factions and stables and Regal is a great figurehead for one. Swagger and Bourne should have stayed on ECW and this threesome should be on Raw instead. Reks controls the early portion of the match but loses it after hitting Regal’s knee during a charge to the corner. The crowd was quiet during the Bourne/Masters match and silent for this one. Reks misses a slingshot crossbody and eats a running knee from William that leads to a pinfall victory for the 2008 King of the Ring. Post-match, Jackson and Kozlov join in on the fun to hit their finishers on the fallen Reks.

Our Superstars spotlight video of the week is for the Unified Tag Champions, Chris Jericho and Big Show. We then get a brief recap of the main event happenings from this week’s pretty decent Raw and are reminded of the matches on the Break Point card so far.

Cryme Tyme & Eve vs The Hart Dynasty: At one point this was building into a nice little feud on Superstars and Smackdown but it got derailed for Cryme Tyme’s brief run at tag-team gold. JTG and Tyson Kidd start us off but Kidd quickly tags his partner into the match. DH takes control of the contest by overpowering JTG until he pisses him off by ripping off his skully. This affront to hip-hop fashion leads to Smith getting dropkicked into the turnbuckle and then eating a facebuster before Shad is tagged for some tandem offense. Natalya gets tagged in so Eve also has to enter. Nat brings Torres down on the mat to showcase some of her skills but Eve answers back. Scuffle in the corner leads to Eve getting slammed and Natalya again has control with an interesting chinlock/abdominal stretch combo. Eve fights out of it with some elbows but before she can get in trouble Natalya tags out and Kidd and Shad return to the ring. Another nice piece of tandem offense by CT as JTG floors Kidd with a slingshot shoulder block. Kidd takes a break outside the ring and is chased back in by JTG. Hart is tagged in and nails JTG with a chop block and we head to a commercial break.

As we return Hart is working over the left leg of JTG and Kidd is tagged in for some double team action. JTG almost fights to the tag but Hart is able to tag in and cut him off. After briefly attempting an ankle lock, Smith does lose control of his opponent and big Shad is tagged into the match. He quickly takes control of Smith with a flurry of moves including a shoulder block from the top rope that gets a 2.6 count. Shad hits his finisher on Smith but as he does, Natalya gets the blind tag. Shad is forced out of the ring without a pinfall attempt as the ladies re-enter the action. But all is not well in Canada as Eve enters the match like a house on fire. After a nice dropkick and flipping senton splash, Eve goes for the pinfall attempt but is pulled off by Kidd and all heck breaks loose in and out of the ring. As the scene settles a bit the guys are fighting outside and the ladies are left to do battle inside the ring. Eve misses her handspring splash and Natalya hits her discuss clothesline which is enough to get the pinfall victory for her team. JR drops a Great Muta reference and Todd reminds us for the 13th time this show that the Undertaker returns to Smackdown tomorrow night as our show ends.
