Anderson Silva injured, undergoes surgery

News

Anderson Silva has informed the UFC that he’ll be undergoing elbow surgery shortly and will be out of action for several months. We don’t have any details on the nature of the procedure, but we’ve contacted Silva’s management for comments and clarification and will update this post once we hear anything.

The surgery removes any hope the company had of Silva defending his title against Dan Henderson on the Nov. 14 UFC 105 show from England. The show was originally planned to have BJ Penn defending the lightweight title against Diego Sanchez, but that fight was moved to UFC 107 once Silva agreed to face someone on the UFC 105 card. That “someone” wasn’t Dan Henderson, but rather an unnamed opponent, but the UFC was hopeful that Silva would agree to face Henderson.
