Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

RoH on HDnet comes to us once again from the Arena in Philadelphia. This was the last show from the set of tapings I attended. The main event is Tyler Black vs. Jerry Lynn which should be good (I’m not telling either way). It also has the HDNet return of the Briscoe brothers. Do these two matches make for an exciting hour of TV? Read on to find out…

Just like every week, Hog and Prazak start it off and hype the main event. Yup.

Kenny King and Rhett Titus vs. Jay and Mark Briscoe

Titus and King come out with carriers of Herpes…I mean whores…fine young ladies. The Briscoes don’t get the hero’s welcome that they probably should have…oh well. Titus and King are the best tag gimmick in RoH, the Briscoes are probably overall the best tag team in RoH history. This makes for an interesting match up. Usually, the Briscoes change a little something up after each Mark injury. This time…not so much. The match is a lot of punchy-kicky tag formula with a couple of fun double teams thrown in for good measure. The match really starts to drag, though. The Briscoes get the win with an old fashioned Doomsday Device…no springboard. This went nowhere fast.

Winners: Jay and Mark Briscoe via pinfall

After that match the American Wolves come out to run down the Briscoes. They get taken out from behind by Steen and Generico. This leads to a four on two brawl. Yay…valued tag titles!

Nigel McGuinness has to choke back bile as a result of being interviewed by Kyle Durden. Nigel makes no prediction for the main event. Nigel can talk as well as almost anyone, and I think he will ultimately succeed in WWE…Kyle Durden sucks.

We get some clips of Eddie Kingston beating up Chris Hero. It was a smart move to bring this feud to RoH.

Eddie Kingston comes to the ring eyes a-blaze. Shane Hagadorn comes out to send a new opponent out…Sal Rinauro.

Eddie Kingston vs. Sal Rinauro

Poor, poor Sal Rinauro. To say he gets his ass kicked would be to devalue asskickings. It was only four hits: Eddie hitting Sal, Sal hitting the mat, Eddie hitting Sal with the Backfist to the Future, Sal hitting the mat again, but it was an asskicking nonetheless.

Winner: Eddie Kingston via pinfall

Nigel McGuinness vs. Aaron Scott

Aaron Scott getting introduced after Nigel and sans entrance music is a harbinger of a short and painful paycheck tonight. Nigel doesn’t make extremely quick work of Master Scott, but this is a squash. (Not one of Kingstonian proportions, though) Nigel gets the win with a DDT. This match sucked…horribly. After the bell, Nigel locks in the London Dungeon.

Winner: Nigel McGuinness via pinfall.

Tyler Black vs. Jerry Lynn

These guys have had some fun matches this year, and it was Tyler that pinned Jerry Lynn in the match where Aries won the title. This is the culmination of Jerry Lynn deciding whether or not to retire after losing the RoH belt. The transitions in this match are god awful slow. I say that because they are capable of so much more…against each other…as I have seen…a few times before. Tyler Black is definitely the Lex Luger of RoH. He looks great but never ultimately delivers. When Tyler does win the belt…I am not going to care. Partially from the number of times that Tyler almost won, and partially because I just don’t care a whole hell of a lot about RoH anymore. They go back and forth for a while until Nigel McGuinness makes his presence known. He puts Lynn’s feet on the ropes after the Fulmination (my name for the ugh Buckle Bomb/Superkick combo). This distracts Tyler enough to allow Lynn to get a rollup for the win. The angle was somewhat intriguing, but the match was not.

Winner: Tyler Black via pinfall.

Big Andy Mac’s Big Andy Final Thoughts: This show was less than stellar. It pales in comparison to the first show from DGUSA, but that is kind of apples to significantly faster and more awesome apples…ok Oranges. RoH usual saves any lackluster undercard matches with an awesome main event. This week…that is not the case. I hope next week (taped on Thursday and Friday) is better…

I’ll see you next time…
