Todd Duffee returns at UFC 107

News

Powerhouse heavyweight prospect Todd Duffee is being targeted for a return to the Octagon at UFC 107.

Duffee scored the fastest recorded knockout in UFC history at UFC 102 with his seven-second destruction of Tim Hague. The American Top Team product stated after the bout that he wanted to compete again soon and against better competition. While no opponent has been decided for Duffee, the company will have plenty of options come Dec. 12; the winner of the Mirko Cro Cop/Junior dos Santos bout will likely be available if the company wants to throw Duffee into the deep end.

One other option would be canceling the Cheick Kongo/Frank Mir bout scheduled for the same card. There’s a real rivalry brewing between Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira; both men want to face each other again. Mir is miffed that we’re discounting his win over Nogueira last December, and Nogueira is tired of Mir’s incessant need to talk. Nogueira already stated that he wants to fight Mir in December, so it’s only logical to book that fight for the end of year show on Jan. 2. They’re going to be in desperate need for big fights on that show anyway.

Take Mir out of the Kongo fight and book him against Nogueira later in the month, and replace Mir with Todd Duffee. Duffee wants to face better competition, and Cheick Kongo would definitely be a step up in opponent quality from Tim Hague.

UFC 107 is headlined by a lightweight championship bout between BJ Penn and Diego Sanchez.
