10 Thoughts on SmackDown – 09.04.09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

1. I couldn’t help but laugh at the fans shown during CM Punk’s opening segment. I guess its true what they say – It’s still real to them!

2. On to how incredible the Punk promo actually was (bar making kids cry, which was just plain fun to watch). Now that Jeff Hardy is gone it is possible that CM Punk is the biggest star on SmackDown. Obviously people will argue that is always going to be the Undertaker, but until Taker comes back full time and doesn’t take lengthy breaks every couple of months then he doesn’t get the honour.

3. Mike Knox’s promo’s just got odder each week, although it is nice to see him with an actual personality instead of just being the guy who kicks people in the head.

4. The opening tag team match was just horrible in terms of in ring talent. Honestly Finlay was the only one involved who knows how to work a good match and the Kane vs. Khali feud just gets more boring by the week.

5. Why do they continue to attempt a Michelle McCool vs. Melina feud? It’s been nothing but boring since it began and Michelle McCool can’t even wrestle right now.

6. Superb match from John Morrison and Rey Mysterio, and John Morrison picking up the Intercontinental Championship is a great move. My only worry is that they will give the title to Dolph Ziggler too quickly, which will only do damage to Morrison’s momentum.

7. Drew McIntye continues to impress by attacking R-Truth. Not only is it good to see young talent getting air time but it’s also great to see R-Truth being the one to get the beating.

8. The Diva’s tag team match was far more entertaining than any segment that Michelle McCool or Melina have pulled off recently. Doesn’t that say something about who really deserves to be Diva’s Champion?

9. It’s great to see Matt Hardy getting involved in the main event scene and actually be made to look like a serious threat to CM Punk. While I honestly doubt Matt Hardy’s capability to ever win the world title, this is most definitely a start.

10. A dynamite ending to the show. The focus clearly being on showing that the Undertaker can take out CM Punk when he least expects it, and continuing to build what could be one of the best feuds of the year.
