The People’s Column: Random Thoughts

Columns, Features

I know that it may be a little early for a random thoughts column, but I felt like it.

Rey Mysterio vs John Morrison was perhaps the best match that I have seen since Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 25 (which I honestly consider to be the best match in Wrestlemania history).  They told a perfect story in the ring with only one thing lacking; a storyline around the match.  Then again, when it was a match brought about by a suspension, what else could we expect?

I am interested to see where Undertaker vs CM Punk goes this week on Smackdown.  Could this be a long lasting feud?  If it is and CM Punk manages to hold his own against the Undertaker it would take him to another level.  What would it take to make this a long program?  Undertaker needs to get on the microphone and cut promo after promo on CM Punk.  If they go head to head on the mic, CM Punk will look like a legitimate star.  That being said, beyond Shawn Michaels, Undertaker has not cut a promo on anyone in a long while.

“The Rise and Fall of WCW” was a very interesting DVD.  It told the story of the company pretty well.  Of course there were errors and the WWE did make things seem different than they were, but that is what is expected when the WWE promotes a former rival.

I know I do not mention TNA a whole lot.  To be honest, I don’t like the product.  That being said, Kurt Angle has frightened me since he left WWE.  He was dangerous to have in the ring then (he dropped RVD on his head) and I don’t believe that he is any better now.  His recent arrest just shows that Kurt is only looking out for Kurt.  No matter how good some of his matches may be, he should not be wrestling.

I was never a big Mr Kennedy fan either.  He can go to TNA and collect a check, but I doubt he’ll do anything groundbreaking or important.

While I am on a TNA kick, why is Mick Foley still wrestling?  He has not had any reason to be in the ring since his retirement in 2000.  He has wrestled semi-full time since then and has had two decent matches (with Randy Orton at Backlash 2004 and Edge at Wrestlemania XXII) in nine years.

Abraham Washington is just horrible.  Maybe Tony Atlas will help him, but I doubt it.  He could be a good talker and possibly great in a GM role, but what is the point of a talk show?  Roddy Pipper had one, but he was also a wrestler with an established character before then.

I really love The Miz.  Even after losing to Cena, he has looked great.  I hope he gets a run with the US title sometime soon.

Kofi Kingston is a great choice for US Champion, but I hope that he gets involved in a meaningful feud sometime soon.  He needs it to establish himself.

The end of the Orton-Cena confrontation on Raw is highlighted on the WWE page as “From Plinko to RKO.”  This may have been to single greatest caption in that website’s history.

That will be the end of my random thoughts and this weeks column.  Feel free to interact in the comments!
