“Pee Wee” Herman and Don Frye ready to wage war

News

Our very own Jonathan Snowden has an interview over at Heavy with Dave “Pee Wee” Herman, who steps into the cage at Shark Fights 6 this weekend to do battle with the legendary Don Frye.

Herman has long been considered a bright heavyweight prospect, but he says he only recently dedicated himself to mixed martial arts. He’s currently signed to Bellator and is scheduled to participate in a heavyweight tournament for the promotion, but he has no idea when that will take place:

“It sounded like a good opportunity. They seemed like an up-and-coming promotion. I thought I’d be getting more fights than I am though,” Herman said. “I had heard the next season will be in January, February, and March. But I have no idea at all. After my last fight for them I was told they were doing a heavyweight tournament this fall, like right now.”

Herman is prepared for Frye in more ways than one. For starters, he’s rocking a Frye-esque mustache.

“Somebody already tell you I have a mustache right now?” Herman asked. “For this fight, I am Don Frye. If you saw me right now you’d believe it, with the sweet ‘stache I have going on.”

Frye is not intimidated by Herman’s size advantage, however. He’s spent his entire fighting career matched up against bigger fighters, so the bout with Herman is just another day at the office.

“Hell yeah, he’s a big ole boy,” Frye said. “But he’s small for the people I fight. I’m used to fighting guys like James Thompson at 280 pounds. Chad Rowan at 475 pounds. This guy’s a runt compared to what I fight.”
