Looks like you’ll have to wait until next year to see the Hobbits’ journey on Blu-ray. Originally thought to be released on November 3rd, Warner Bros. (in its infinite wisdom) decided to push the release of The Lord of the Rings the “theatrical cuts” to sometime in Spring 2010.
The tentative timetable has it to be released in March.
The only reason I can fathom is because Warner Bros. is touting the 70th anniversary releases of The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind and the 50th anniversary release of Hitchcock’s North By Northwest – all them on Blu.
So for now, you’re just going to have to make due with the DVDs. But print out this image and put it underneath your pillow. You’ll rest easy.
