Project Runway – Episode 6-4 Review

The Tent in Bryant Park

Well, when the designers on Season 6 were asked to make a celebrity maternity ensemble for a mother who gave birth in December 2008, I asked how far out this show was shot. Here is our answer- Heidi at the Bryant Park Show, Feb. 20, 2009, that will conclude the current Season 6 we are watching! So like everything else in fashion, it happens at least 6 months before it actually happens! Hmmmph!

Well, tonight I was too good at predicticting the future again, but I am sure it is over as this is going to get harder. Note to self before start of show: Qristyl is on thin ice- tonight she does something less ‘mark-down rack’ or she is out, and she was! I love to start at the end.

To me, it was not even close when it came to a toss-up between Q and Logan; he is cute and the judges said he ‘lost his way’, like a lamb. I spent a lot of my career in the Plus size industry and remember thinking I had to be perfection+ to compensate for not being thin, so I looked at Q tonight, standing next to the handsome lamb-boy, in her too tight, unattractive clothes, and Droopy Drawers Bra and thought, “Lady, you don’t stand a prayer.”
Aside from that , the surprise was Althea’s three-piece being the winning outfit, after one of the dishy competitors backstage said it was so poorly made, she should have just stapled it together! Well, ladedah to that- the judges loved it and they loved my adorable ‘family man’, Epherson’s very edgy dress; he is home-sick for his family, but so talented his work caught the admiring eye of one of my own fave designers, guest judge Marc Bouwer who was gracious and encouraging. Like Marc, all guest judges tonight were new- Stylist Jennifer Rade and Marie Claire Editor, Zac Glassner- both ladies wanted to take home Althea’s dress, so she will need more staples, or fabric?
Tonight’s challenge was to make a dress for a special industry event for each of the contestant’s models. It was interesting to see how some models and designers had bonded and would sink or swim together, while others were on different fashion floors, altogether. I adored Louise’s dress, but she did not make the top three and her safe performances are frustrating me, as I suspect she is a great talent. Another fave of mine made being in the bottom three look like a win as he smiled in agreement with everything the judges said and thanked them for the criticism that would help him grow as he went forward- Grace Under Pressure, Johnny! Bravo.
