Japanese lightweight Takanori Gomi was officially announced as a participant in Vale Tudo Japan 09 today. The event takes place October 30th, and Gomi said it will be his last fight in Japan. Gomi said that he’d like to try and continue his fighting career in the United States.
Gomi has been one of the oustanding lightweights of the decade, but has recently fallen into a slump. It is believed that Gomi wants to fight in the UFC, where he would no doubt be a welcome addition to a weight class in sore need of real competition for champion B.J. Penn.
