Project Runway – Episode 6-5 Review

BLACK AND WHITE AND READ ALL OVER…Oh- No- they are getting dishy about each other- what a surprise! This challenge, from the LA Times‘ Fashion Critic Booth Moore, is to make fashion using newspaper. Ra’mon has a concept early’ Johnny is nonplused (I would be heading for the bar). They can use muslin as a lining- the 1st paper dress was 1968- I HAD ONE- and ripped it in the ladies’ room- you needed a backup!

Anyway…some are lost and some are found with this project, and a certain designer will not shut up, like 4-year old with a glue-pot. Tim calls Johnny’s effort “a crack project gone awry” and my beloved good attitude boy says, “ouch, I have 4.5 hours to start over.” Christopher has a hot idea. Irina is making paper fur. Shirin has a nifty skirt which reminds me of the winner of a competitive show last year. Johnny is melting down.

Time for a quick prayer: OH LORD, THANK YOU FOR PUTTING ME ON EARTH NOW TO SEE THIS LEVEL OF TALENT IN THE FIELD I LOVE, LIVE, ON T.V. EVEN IF IT WAS FILMED 6 MONTHS AGO.AMEN!

OMG! There is some fabu-ness heading to the runway, but I am worried for Johnny.

Judges are Eva Longoria Parker, Zoë Glassner, and Tommy Hilfiger. Logan and Nicholas are really good; Christopher is inspired with falling bamboo leaves of paper creating the bottom and a top that looks like a dulled metallic. Ra’mon takes us to the tropics with a little 2 piece number to die for (great side interest and balance), while Epherson gives us a combo of a retro 50’s silhouette with a Japanoise feel. Johnny does a dress in patchwork squares, while Gordana does a vest-look top and double ruffle short skirt that shows great creativity. Carol Hannah delivers an amazing long red gown, while chatty Shirin does a bubble of inverted pleats that is slightly surrealistic- she is a knockout, and talented to be sure. My own favorite is Irina’s ‘faux fur’ collar coat which is followed by Althea’s strapless, well- sculpted below knee length dress that almost looks like it has been tiled.. Louise’s short, full skirt dress concerns me as the top looks as if it has been adorned with coin wrappers, but the model looks darling in it.
O
K, Althea is one of the top three- again; as is Irina with her coat, although Tommy sees the scotch tape; Christopher’s ‘looks like art’, oh yes!

Bottom Three: Gordana is too safe; Johnny not well executed, and he tells a whopper about how it all came to pass; Nicholas ‘looks like an insect”, but I liked it.

Winner is IRINA- I am so happy! The loser is Johnny- I am so sad!
